Stornway had an Asterus 733 charter to Faro a couple of months back.
That is excellent news. I was wondering where the 767 came from, is it Uzbekistan Airways? What was JAT’s former long haul network like, didn’t they fly to Sydney at one point?
They are currently evaluating the A319/A320 or 737-700/800, which makes sense to compete with the likes of Easyjet and Ryanair. I don’t think you will see an order for a while but it is obvious that the 146 would be too small for future plans.
This is what I have been wondering, I have heard nothing of the Airbus aircraft disappearing so I presume the older A320/1 are staying in the fleet? If they did go then there would be a rather big gap in the capacity on higher demanding routes.
All the 737 and BAe 146 aircraft are leaving the fleet. I guess it does sort out what will happen to the long haul fleet though no formal announcement. There is actually only a firm order for 7 aircraft. The rest are leased as the article said.
Anyone care to debate the new destinations? Athens possibly?
Yup, but can anyone expand upon the rumour. Miami has been in discussions with a few international airlines for new services, most notably Aer Lingus. I was wondering if the 3rd A330 would be used or maybe the 2nd A33 being used on alternate days to IAD and MIA?
Debonair’s demise was partly due to the BAe 146, it was not attributed really with the 737 or BAC 1-11, which I believe were AB Airlines aircraft (Debonair’s alliance partner). The BAe 146 proved for them to be a huge dilemma as they kept breaking down. Debonair could not afford 737s due to a capital shortage and so the 146 were the only viable option. However, the aircraft was unreliable and in a bad condition and so unfortunately they broke down in the summer. Therefore, they lost revenue in the busy period and then wasted money on fixing the aircraft. A definite mistake.
So it wasn’t the 737 or BAC 1-11 that saw the demise of Debonair, they were naturally taken down with the airline. The 737s were more of a problem for AB Airlines.
With Flybe. I always questioned why they used the BAe 146 for low cost operations? The two just don’t mix. Now I think the aircraft are up for retirement with Airbus, Boeing or Embraer aircraft up as choices.
Oh it’s so cute! Looks like a little Dinky toy. The size of the tail fin compared to fuselage is quite humorous.
Rumour suggests that 3rd A330 aircraft will be flying to Miami in 2004?
The old livery always had a blue/green streak on it to represent the green meadows and woods and blue rivers and lakes. It was a lot more subtle and blended in more. The new touch of blue is just too abrupt. I think this new c/s totally decreases the superiority of Austrian Airlines, the elder livery was modern yet also elegant. This new one to me is just a total loss of this classic design.
Looking pretty good. I am actually surprised they are introducing a new livery, Aurigny in the last few years, seem to have had a mixture of aircraft in hybrid liveries. Nice to see them introducing a set c/s.

At last the big Aer Lingus order! I have been waiting for this. The A320 is not much of a surprise, it is has proven popular, however, I had hoped that some possible economic factors would have swung the order Boeing’s way. But anyway, good news. Shows that now with fleet commonality Aer Lingus will seemingly be a low cost operation on short haul.
That is okay…
Aurigny have also been granted a license to operate as competition on the JER-SOU route from October 26th.
Yes 5 years, I said that above. It is a long term deal rather than the “wet lease” of the Cimber Air aircraft.
Aurigny are leasing the aircraft from Aeronautix so they are not registered with the airline.
