Superb Morris Minor though!
Yes but you missed my point…there is money in it! I know of a very successful company making money out of aviation books, so much so they are on their 50th title in 10 years… it must, it can, and does work!
Who says that there is no money in publishing, what an absurd answer, if there wasn’t there would be no book s published! There are considerable other costs to be taken into into account. As a book and print publisher I have to do just this, so glib disposable remarks are irrelevant! You won’t sell a book if you don’t get off your arse to take the risk. I’m about to build a house in my back garden…it’s a risk that I won’t get my return on capital back as fast as I want to, but I know I’ll have three times the value. All I am demonstrating re the book, is that it’s not much of a real risk, and in any case by pass British printers as they are more expensive. If anybody wants contact details, I’ll pass them on. Anyway…”no risk, no fun”…”no guts no glory”!
Jusat to my comments, when printing why not get quotes from De Agostini in Novara Italy. I’ve just published a 96 page full colour large format (bigger than A4) paperback, 5000 copies and printing/transport back to UK cost £5800, with £1600 origination costs PDF straight to print. Book sells at £14.99 (Spit & Polish)
all in all…..Chailey got it all right….even if I say so myself….you try running an airshow…I have to admit it was a big buzz…which is why I’ll do it agin and it will be better!!
chailey airshow
You most likely will Woitek! I ran the whole damn thing and most likely will repeat it all again! Need to sell more Spit & Polish now. I’ve had excellent feedback generally, all we need is far more of an attendance next year and I’m sure it will occur as we’ll get more enthusiasts present. It was more locals than enthusiast as one might expect due to last time. All of the display pilots seemed to enjoy it and the fly-in guys all seemed impressed. My intention is to produce more “old fashioned” type events such as this as I am sure that this type of event is what the public really like. It was reasonably priced for a show and does indeed show to other operators just what can be achieved. The show cost £80K to put on and this included a hefty slice to the landowner/farmer. £32K was the aircraft bill so it all adds up. What I now need are some early ideas on sponsorship which I shall be attending to for next year. Come on you guys…any potential sponsors lurking!
Yeah OK….but they only charged me £300 for re-spraying the codes and applying the decals…which were based on OFMC’s size criteria…I printed them…most importantly OFMC gave me a good price anyway for the Spit since I allowed the Mark Hanna Surgical Research Fellowship to be 1 of just 2 official charities on site and their stand was FOC. They collected over £2K…any of you sharp eyed types chuck anything in the bucket? I gave them a bundle of profile prints to sell that Mark had signed for my Polish Memorial charity back in 1999. The purpose of MH434 was 2 fold one to boost their (MHSRF funds) and to boost the sale of Spit & Polish which it clearly did.
Well…I’ve just gotta do it again then!!!! Forgot to add…anyone of you got a cool £80K to chuck at it for next year!!
Well…I’ve just gotta do it again then!!!!
MH 434 has changed schemes?!?! why? i loved her 222 scheme
I paid OFMC extra to have her back in Grp Capt Gabszewicz’s colours to help promot the book I’ve just published called Spit & Polish http://www.spitfireart.com/html/spit&polish.html ….I even printed the vinyl decals myself! Actually here’s a thought….both ML407 and MH 434 came under the Sector HQ at Chailey whilst both Spits were at Selsey on D-Day…that’s why I book em both ya see! Selsy and Coolham were controlled from Chailey under 18 Sector 2nd TAF, 133 and 135 Wings.
How about a big Mustang day at Coolham next year…fantastic runway!
I wanted to get the B25 into Chailey but she was booked elsewhere and runway too short.
as above, if so your comments please an photos.
I did! I ran it all! In fact I’m still taking it all apart tomorrow! Was a good show though I missed most of it both days….the joys of being an organiser…there’s always something happening that needs sorting! Next years will be slicker!
Brilliant Sunday… Superb flying by all!
Ray Hanna & 434? Words don’t describe… only that if God flew a Spit it would look something like that…
Worth the ticket price alone! 🙂
Precisely!!!!
Try telling that though to the 50 people or so who as cheap skates would not buy a ticket to come in whilst standing in the lane watching my show FOC….no wonder I lost my rag with them and called the Police to move them on! Police cost me £48 per hour per man as well for two days!
Here’s a quick teaser….
More maybe later.
You guys should have seen Ray turn up on Friday evening and what he did for BBC cameras…such a damn good low pass that only RH can pull off well!
Seeing two Spits, a Hurri and…a Mustang just dropping by at 4pm on an empty airfield just as my team were still setting up…we all lost a good couple of hours of set up time, but wow…what a buzz!!!
Hi Glenn
I agree.
I was talking with Janis and Guy just after the show when I heard about it. Sure glad your papa is safe.
best regards
Arthur Rayner (Chailey organiser)
