VR 930 is a more likely candidate at that speed, and fits the glimpsed wing planform better than a T28 too Joe.
Thanks for that – didn’t even know she was there. Must have been a high speed test!
‘Unlikely to be needed’? So nobody down under that worried about a nuclear capable and increasingly belligerent N Korea then?
I should find that reassuring I suppose.
I’m amazed that such an ‘end of service’ display could be sanctioned by a government.
I can’t imagine ours laying out all those pennies to burn (literally) in fuel.
15.06 today piston engine (sounded radial) aircraft flying S over Ware at full chat and 400mph and not an inch above 500ft (being charitable). Fantastic noise! Only saw it for less than half a second between two houses. Banking as if aimed for North Weald.
My guess is Corsair.
Anyone know for sure?
I believe the aircraft that first used DHs ply technology was the DH90 Dragonfly. And this was only sufficiently advanced to allow singly curved surfaces at the time, hence the straight fuselage aft the wings. I haven’t done much research on this, only enough to build my latest (1:6) model of it, but this could have been at about the same time the Vega method was being developed?
Keith, does that book also contain any info on what happened to the Airwork Prentice and Proctors dismantled in an old hanger on the N side of the field in the mid-late 50s?
I am up with the excellent Proctor restoration work at Gt.Oakley, but it seems the airframes were not the actual ones stored at Panshanger, so I still don’t know what happened to them.
Also broken up I expect.
Interested to see Hornet Moth ‘DMT on the feild in the cover shot. I was photographing her at Gt.Oakley at the classic fly-in this year.
The Dragonfly makes the front cover!
(I’m chuffed! It’s my first)
Hi guys,
Been posting a few short videos on YouTube – thought I’d post the links here in case anyone fancies a look…

There are ones of the Heron and Q6 as well, but it’s easy enough to find them by going onto my channel – and I may well have posted them before anyway!
Thanks LL, I was aware of the age of the thread and thought it better to get the information linked into past thread rather than ask as a new one. Just catching up. Couldn’t find out that info by using the search function.
That tells me that even what I thought recently added panoramas on Google Earth are at least three years old. The map shows it tail-less on the field.
Being engineless I assume it’s being used for static display only.
Another thing I noticed was the presence (at least on the day the Google van passed) of a silver Ercoupe sporting RAF roundels. Really? I didn’t know the RAF ever used them… or is someone having a laugh?
Okay guys,
I see from the Google Earth panoramas that the Hunter was being dismantled as the photo van passed Eaglescott. The wings are laid out on the car park, one with a main leg pointing skyward.
Anyone know what’s happening to her?
Restoration? (One hopes).
The Dak and Lanc were clearly some distance apart then – I only saw the Lanc over Ware 12.15 and 12.45. Anyone see the Spit?
Probably the speed difference accounts for the separation. Timed to arrive over the Thames at about 12.25 for the run in to St Pauls.
The Dak and Spit must have come from another direction as I only saw the Lanc southbound overhead Ware at about 12.15 and northwards 12.45.
To me the Dragonfly is a fantastic looking aircraft at any scale but if YOU want to do one that big be my guest!
I would have to change my van and I only just bought this one! Or buy a trailer perhaps? At 1:6 I can just get it in with the Heron on the floor and Q6 suspended… not a lot of air space around!
Practicality eh! Don’t you just hate it?!
The Dragonfly in the air. These are low-res shots… and no legs to be seen!

Yes, that’s the one Steve. It’s the only one flying in this country so far as I know. There is one still working for its keep in New Zealand (-AYR) but EDU is owned by Torquil Norman and kept Cheltenham way I believe. I’m still looking for internal details for the model. Does anyone have photos of the seating, instrument panel and so on? I don’t want to do a lot of detail – just a general likeness would be fine.
Martin, it will be published one day but I have yet to do the drawings for the Q6… then there’s the Heron to do… but I think the Dragonfly could overtake that one! It will probably turn up in the Traplet plans handbook and join all the others about a year hence.
Actually, I might as well post the list in case anyone’s interested…

Enjoy!
Here’s my latest – it now has new wings after a bad landing on first flight.
Just awaiting delivery of two new ESCs before second flight.
There were no problems with the models flying characteristics but the starboard aileron servo ceased to function at take-off and the original ESCs had insufficient cooling.
Model is 1:6 scale
