I was going to say that the location of the two photographs rang no bells whatsoever – although I do not pretend to a comprehensive knowledge of Sussex airfields and strips – and that my initial thoughts were that the aeroplane looked to be in a farm field. If it was operating off an unprepared field, maybe that’s why it was equipped with the tyres that appear in the photographs?

I vaguely remember being taken there with my father at a very early hour, somewhere near Bognor. Presumably my father was there to help and knew the pilot/owner. In fact the plane looks bogged in the lower picture.

Definitely Shoreham. Outside the north blister hangar. That’s the Sussex Pad and Lancing College in the background.

No. Taken by my father. I found hundreds of negs (some in poor condition) after he died in 2006 and scanned them.
