Hi,
The DFM register has got the recommendation for the DFM. He was awarded the DFM for his actions on the 28th May. If you can wait until the w/end I’ll type it in.
Cheers
Jim
I believe his number was 747934. John Douglas Pickering. Gazette date 1/12/42. 120 Sqn. A Liberator Wireless Operator.
Or are we talking about Barton VC ?
There were two Leslie Miller’s with the DFC.
Go to the London Gazette site, search for page 581 in 1945, or page 2027 in 1945.

From Flypast July 2004.
Pilot disappeared on ferry flight from Squires Gate to Little Rissington. His body was found in the Mersey River on 3/11/40. The unit was 1 AACU. Aircraft serial was L3316, which was a Hawker Henley.
Hope that helps,
Jim
Hi,
I’ve got a copy as well.
If you can split the task down between a few people I’m happy to help.
Is there not a DH6 book though? Published by Air Britain? That may be an easier way into it.
Cheers
Jim

What do you need to know?
Jim
Sarah Greene in my case…she was a nice lady:)
I was at OW today, helping on one of the stalls. We heard the anouncer saying something about a celebrity, but we couldn’t make out what he was on about!
Very nice to see the Lysander back in the air again…
Wonder if anyone could help me identify the locations of the following RFC squadrons:
26 Reserve Squadron 10.3.1917-5.4.1917
44 Reserve Squadron 6.4.1917-10.4.1917
83 Squadron 11.4.1917-30.9.1917I’m assuming the first two were pilot training units, but would be grateful for confirmation.
Brian
From “Flying Units of the RAF” Alan Lake.
26 Reserve Squadron was at Turnhouse for all of that period.
44 Reserve Squadron was at Lilbourne, again for all of the quoted period.
From “RAF Squadrons” C G Jefford
83 was at Spittlegate from January 1917 until 15 September. Then moved to Wyton.
Hope that helps
Jim
The DFM register has the details from Air 2 / 9595.
F/Sgt Douglas William BALE. No 97 Sqdn, LG 11/8/42, sorties 35, flying hours 195.30, Air Gunner
“F/S Bale has completed 35 sorties against the enemy during which time he has shown constant keenness and ability. He took part in a low-level attack on the Dortmund-Ems canal and during this attack he was wounded in the head and both legs but was operating again in less than one month. On another occasion, when attacked by a fighter, his turret was put out of action and although he could no longer return the enemy’s fire, he remained in his turret to report the movements of the enemy aircraft. As a result the attack was successfully evaded”
This is dated 13th June 1942
Hope it helps.

Bale DFM
Hi,
The details of Bale’s DFM award are in the DFM Register for the Second World War.
I’m knackered at the minute, too tired to type!
If no-one else does, I’ll post them here sometime over the w/end.
Cheers
Jim
