I am sure you will be happy with a D50 (as with many dslrs you will have to learn about sensor cleaning though – a topic well covered in this and other forums) it is capable of very good results and the build quality is fine – mine has had nearly a year of hard use and is as good as new. The 70-300 “G” lens is fine working with it subject to the limitations of the lens that you will no doubt have found with your F55 – I have found it to be better than my old Sigma 70-300 for focusing with the D50 – great on a bright day with good contrast in the subject – poor on a dull day with low contrast subjects at range – experiment with the autofocus settings and you will get to know how to get the best out of it in different conditions. It is also better stopped down at about F11 as you get near to the 300 end. Between 70-200 it is at it’s best. As 200mm is the equivalent of 300mm on your F55 you may find that you don’t have to use it as much at the 300mm setting.
A great set of images.
Thanks to all who have posted pictures – as you say a very pleasant airshow in all respects.
I was flying the Corsair and the pictures will provide an excellent record for me. If there are any more of dropping the FG1D over the fence for landing (a time for concentration !) then they would be much appreciated.

I have a video clip of you landing on Sunday – I will send you a PM with the url so you can watch it over the ‘net once I have uploaded it.
Thanks for a great display.
Gareth – superb images – looking forward to seeing more.
I’d like to add my thanks also. Both days of the show this year have been fantastic and with good weather too. It will take me days to sort through all my photos. The atmosphere at Breighton is tremendous. There was so much going on this year with terrific displays and entertainment from the balloon bursting to the WWI dogfight with classic cars and bikes. Seeing the Buchon flown at long last was just great and then to see the display with it and the Spitfire was just terrific – also seeing the Mew Gull flown with the Mustangs was superb. Everyone around me seemed to be having a good time. I would like to thank all those involved the last two days have been great fun!
Was it the BBMF one? It is due to Display at RAF Leuchars today. I saw it this morning over York at about 11am heading North.
Excellent – thanks for posting. Shame about the Avenger – I hope he builds another.
That’d be a nice French Embraer Tucano. Two of them (one grey, one white/orange appeared) on Thursday afternoon… Their take off on Friday highlighted the performance differences between the two!
Hot_Charlie – thanks for confirming it was a French Embraer Tucano – I presume the performance of these is poorer – I wish I had seen the Jags – I seem to live next to a low flying route (I must be one of the few in the village that look forward to the low flying! Our cat knows the sound of a Tornado and takes cover when he hears them approach but lately we only seem to have had Apaches- mind you with plenty of warning of their approach I have time to get my camera out – a SAR Sea King has just this minute flown over) so I was hoping they may come below the clouds – but sadly not.
252 – Did you get any shots of the white/orange Tucano?
They haven’t, I think you will find that is a Pilatus PC9. I may be wrong as I’m not up to speed on modern kit.
Is it not a French Embraer EMB-312F Tucano? (edit – I now see Hot_Charlie answered this before my post – so it is)
Great to see these pictures. I was working from home in the garden yesterday – a short drive away from Linton On Ouse and heard the jets but they were above (or in) the clouds – saw a nice formation of 3 Tucanos in the distance though. Wished I could have been there so seeing these has made up for it.
Does any one know what they mean by single and double layer discs as opposed to single sided?
Single sided – just one side of the disc holds data
Double sided – both sides hold data (like the original StarShip Troopers disc that needed flipping over during the movie – which meant coming out from behind the sofa! – terrifying if you happened to see a spider enroute)
Double/Dual layer – the data side holds two layers giving greater capacity – quite new for recordable discs and you need the correct equipment to write to these layers.
Nowadays most commercial films are on single sided dual layer (as they won’t fit on single sided single layer) – if you notice when watching a film there will be a pause at some stage as the DVD player focuses on the other layer
AS regards your problems finalising the discs – I have used various brands of recordable discs on a variety of equipment and have had lots of compatibility problems – some discs work well with one piece of equipment but not others – discs that work fine on my computer fail to work on my home DVD recorder. More expensive branded discs (Sony are one of my favourites) tend to get better results for me so I would be tempted to try a different brand and see if this cures your problems naturally you need to make sure they are of the correct format (DVD-R etc) and type (probably single layer).
Hope this helps.
I’m no battery expert but have found that new batteries need using a few times before they reach their maximum capacity. I have just bought a new camcorder and the first time the battery was charged it did not last long – mind you I was using the screen a lot which does use more power. Now I have charged and discharged the battery a few times it lasts quite a bit longer. So I would try this and see if the battery life improves.
Great pictures there off Breighton do RACO own the two biplanes on the first shot ,I forgot what they are called I know they are german 😮
James
They are Bucker Jungmeisters – both Breighton based. G-BUTX has just come back from the USA (there is more info about it on the Real Aeroplane Company website together with a link to an online magazine article) – great to see the two in the air together and superb flying by the pilots.
A few more
A few of Mustang “Susy”
Wow – what superb photos!
Great photos – thanks for posting them
Excellent news – I can’t wait to hear the sound of that merlin overhead.
cdp206 – a really interesting web site you have there.
