Thanks Dave,
I thought someone had bought it as it disappeared before the end of the auction.
Thanks again
Gerry
All,
Having just received my copy I wholeheartedly agree with all of the above statements and urge you to buy a copy.
A very thoroughly researched and well illustrated addition to your library, certainly a one to buy in this the 70th anniversary year.
Gerry
Hi all,
I can recommend the following two autobiographies by Battle of Britain airmen.
‘Clouds of fear’ by Roger Hall and ‘ Lifes too short to cry’ by Tim Vigors.
They are both well written and worth having on your shelf.
I have also enjoyed anything written by Sandy Johnstone.
Finally, I find Andy Saunders books well researched and easily readable.
Gerry
All,
How about a three way split.
10 million to Hendon for improvements.
30 million to Bentley Priory who I’m sure you will agree is a really worthy BoB cause.
40 million to ensure that a National Monument to the men and women of bomber command is erected.
Gerry
All,
How about £40 million to the BBMF and £40 million to protect and refurbish Bentley Priory which I think is a much more deserving case for this amount of investment.
Gerry
Hi all,
Another aspect that I find quite disturbing is that the sheer quantity of these available, as well as other ‘new discoveries’ will start to eventually blur history.
How easy it is to buy some old paper and a period typewriter at auction and start producing ‘authentic’ period documents and selling them on as such.
I find it all very sad, especially as some poor ****** is inevitably left out of pocket.
Gerry
Two great pics there Robert.
There must be hundreds out there waiting to surface.
Gerry
How about J J Booth of 600 Squadron and his companion Minnie.
Sorry for the poor quality of the press cuttings but it is the best I have.
Gerry
Brian,
Do you work for Flypast?
If you don’t you should.
Those pictures are quite breathtaking, I wish I had a 10th of your ability.
Gerry
Cheers Wellington,
I believe ‘Suzie’s owner was Squadron Leader John Sample, is that correct?
Another fine image, makes you wonder just how many there are out there tucked away in drawers gathering dust.
Gerry
Andy,
Those are great images!
Which squadron is the group shot near the spit.
One of the group looks like Norman Burnett of 46 Squadron. though I’m not certain.
Gerry
Wow!!!
Those are great images Tim.
I like the picture of the airman with the puppy.
I notice that the last picture is labelled ‘Patullo’.
Is that William Blair Pattulo?
Thanks for posting them.
Gerry
Andy,
I spy Archie Mckellar asleep and possibly Glen Niven, must be 602 Squadron.
I have seen a similar one before somewhere.
Gerry
******!
I thought I was ten years younger!!
