Hi all,
I have a pub related query that one of you may be able to answer.
I knew an air gunner that flew during the Battle of Britain.
He had served at Tangmere and recalled that they used a pub that was very close to the Aerodrome named ‘The Tangmere Arms’.
Despite searching for records of this pub I haven’t been able to find anything to confirm its existence.
Can anyone confirm that there was a pub located next to the airfield named The Tangmere Arms.
Cheers in advance
Gerry
Hi Redhill wings
I have some prints of Stirling’s and Hampden’s that I am happy for you to have.
You may be able to raise a few extra quid from them.
The Stirling pic is especially nice.
Let me know if you are interested and I will see if I can get down there.
Cheers
Gerry
Hi Anon,
The place is in Essex if that is near to you.
I am pretty sure it is all for sale
Gerry
Hi Snafu,
That is a point I hadn’t considered.
I am not fully aware of the legal implications for Key in this type of scenario.
However, if the site contained a disclaimer waiving Keys responsibilty would that not suffice?

Dear all,
I have often wondered why forums like this do not have an ‘Items for sale / Swap’ section.
I have a relatively small collection and suspect that many people that visit the forum have similar collections.
In my case, being of limited funds, I often need to sell parts of my collection to buy others. I think that is the same for most hobbies / interests.
Personally, I think it is advantageous to get as much notice of an auction as possible as this allows time to try and raise funds for a bid.
With regard to selling to the highest bidder, surely that is the same for all collections. Would a stamp collector who had paid £1000 for a stamp expect to sell it for a reduced price years later. It isn’t greed, it is the reality of a specialised collection.
I should add that I have paid for items and then sold them years later for a loss! That is part of the joy of collecting, taking the rough with the smooth.
Very few can afford to invest a lot of time and money and then be expected to give it all away.

Hi Anon,
I haven’t a clue.
Here is a slightly better image of the item that you are interested in.

Cheers John,
That was quick!!!

Cheers Andy,
Much appreciated.
Strange that MacDonnell is credited with a 110 on that date.
There is no mention of it anywhere in the squadron records.
I wonder what the source is.
Cheers

Hi all,
My old rusty tools have been cleaned up considerably using the DEOX C solution.
I have also managed to get hold of a Junghans cockpit clock for the gear.
Cheers once again

Hi
Those pictures are great.
My piece is definately the part marked number 12.
Thanks for posting these.
Gerry
Ok.
For comparison purposes here are some old tools that I found in my shed that I have stopped using due to rust.
My Deox C arrived today and I have placed the tools in a bowl of hot water from the tap. I added four tablespoons of Deox C.
I will leave them to soak overnight and see what happens in the morning.

Hi
Here is a photograph of the cog following the second period of electrolysis and prior to the bead blasting.
The electrolysis process cleaned the gear of all of the rust but left the cog a matt black colour.
The white mark that you can see is calcium carbonate from the hard water in our area. (If I had used distilled water this would not have happened).
Thanks also to aeronut for the breakdown of the steel compound.

Will kurust leave the gear stained in any way?
I want the part to look like it does now.
