The one thing that can never be countered. I reckon in future even the modern short range missiles will be defeated by DIRCMs, new Jammers may make the new AMRAAMs & Meteors fail.
The gun will always kill.
Good point. However, an AVIC PL-10 imaging infrared BVR air-to-air virtually cannot be countered. 😀
How many TF-17 are built sofar or what is used as a lead-in trainer in the meanwhile?!
AFAIK, 42 built so far operating in 3 squadrons. http://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/dubai-china-pakistan-tout-affordability-of-jf-17-364763/
Training is by means of simulators in the last post of page 5.
Hmmm, never realized, both JF-17 and LCA use the same cannon, good old GSh-23-2.
LOL cannon, such obsolete technology.

Interestingly, JF-17 pilots are trained exclusively on simulators. If I’m not mistaken, Gripen pilots still use 2-seaters for training.
Could UAE be a customer of JF-17?

Here’s a good comparison of their top views

Let us not complete the sentences. Who manufactures for all these companies???
Everyone does. 😀
Its dominated by Japanese, US, S. Korean, German companies.
China is a labour and manufacturing base.
Oh wow Japanese, US, S. Korean, German companies. Whatever do they make besides poisonous things like coke and TVs and automobiles and batteries and computers and internet and cellphones and paint and pesticides that they put in wood in houses, detergents, killing machines etc.? 😀 They have turned the world upside down in under 100 years. At this rate, the human race would be poisoned to death within another few hundred years. Did you know almost half of couples have incredible difficulty conceiving children due to poison? Yeah. 😀
Even the PAC gives the speed at M1.6.
JF 17
That’s the old info. As you can see, the old design without DSI.

Likewise, just because LM came up with DSI technology doesn’t prevent AVIC from making DSI jets.

That has already been answered to you before.
The airframe was a block 30, the last of those were built seven years before the DSI was installed…
Here you go.
Thanks for sharing. I’m surprised they were able to do this. The airframes were completely different. They probably used some chainsaws and cut off some existing portions then stuck the DSI in place of the cut-off area LOL.
If China does not use patents, then why do they have a Patent Office?
A patent and a trademark are completely different things. And patents in China are nothing like those in the USA.
Do you even read your own links?
I’ll summarize it for you – Sequence of events:
1. “Research into the DSI was done by Lockheed Martin in the early 1990s.”
2. “The first DSI was flown on 11 December 1996, installed on a F-16 Block 30 fighter” US Patents filed the same year.
3. Two US Patents are granted in 1998.
4. Either by seeing the patent info, seeing the F-16/DSI work or seeing early X-35 info, CAC decides to change the JF-17’s design to include DSI “Work on the DSI was started in 1999”.Pretty much sums up China’s whole outlook on ANY patent.
Don’t forget, China is the PEOPLE’s republic and is a socialist country, so patents don’t work in China. Oh, and AVIC’s DSI has nothing to do with LM’s. They are the same solution, yes.
😀 I am shivering already because of this DSI thingy.
It does look way cooler than traditional ramp air intakes, doesn’t it? 😀

There’s no way they actually put the DSI on an existing F-16 though. It had to have been a new built prototype, no?
The two patents received for LM’s work on DSI filed in 1996 and granted in 1998.
US Patent#’s 5779189 and 5749542
btw, did China license the DSI tech or just “stand on the shoulders of others”
Such patents are absurd. Perhaps the Indian mathematician who invented the concept of 0 can patent it and and no one else can use 0? Perhaps Karl Benz who made the first car in 1885 can patent the concept and no one else can make a car? Perhaps the Chinese eunuch who invented paper can patent it and no one else can use paper? Or perhaps the Chinese who invented gunpower and explosives can patent it and no one else can use gunpower and explosives? Or perhaps the Chinese inventor who invented magnetic compass can patent it and no one else can use magnetic compass? There’s a good saying that science has no national boundaries. No patent can apply to technological advancements. And what ethnicity is Hamstra anyway? Indian?
btw, did China license the DSI tech or just “stand on the shoulders of giants”?
I would go with the latter. AVIC did its own research into DSI back in the 1990s and came up with the same solution, there of course, being only 1 solution: the bump and the foward slanted cowls. 😀
I can guarantee that Jeff H., the inventor and patent holder for DSI, is not Chinese.
source?
Oh brother  .
I bet JSLL4 thinks any Chinese-American contribution in LM is a testament to the Chinese state.
Answer me, how do you prove Americans invented DSI?:D Let me remind you, unlike AVIC which is a state corporation, LM is a public corporation and does not restrict the nationalities of its employees.
Oh, and Pakistani fighter pilots are the first in the world to operationally fly DSI planes 😀
It really hurts you that Americans flew the first DSI, doesn’t it.
Americans? How do you prove that? Not everyone who works at LM is an American. 😉
Are the Wright Brothers not credited with the invention of the airplane even though is was just a “tech demonstrator”?
As Newton once said “I can see far because I stand on the shoulders of giants.”, the Wright brothers could not have made the first flyable aircraft without Egyptian and Chinese and Greek and Babylonian maths, or without paper invented by Chinese people.
Your own words betray you “JF-17 Prototype 06 is the first plane having DSI even though X-35 preceded it.”
Sign. Will you stop being a machine? When I say JF-17 is the first plane that has DSI, I IMPLY it is the first operational plane that has DSI, not a drawing of a plane, not a plane concept, not a plane model, not a plane mockup. And how do you know LM invented DSI? How do you know some 12 year old kid hasn’t invented DSI before LM did? And LM is not even a person, it’s a corporation. 😉
