Cann’t wait to see her in her new wig…as I’m sure neither can many others:p

Stirling undercarriage
Hi Peter,
At our project base a Wyton we have some undercarriage drawing’s, some at different stages of retraction / extension. I can get hold of some copies if that helps ??? I can offer some ‘expertise’ on the undercarriage if you wish because when I was at Wyton I started to strip some undercarriage component’s ready to build a full scale working ‘model’, I might not know a great deal but I am willing to share what I know 😀

Stirling Project member.
Hi,
There were two test models, one like you have said with the nose perminantly down and one with the nose up.

Hunter doing circuit’s yesterday morning and a JP doing aerobatics both at Yeovilton.:D
That’s the type of attitude I have come to expect from some ignorant Americans. Why does “The thought of the USAF flying European tankers makes me want to puke.”??????
Richy.
Hi ,
At a guess I think it’s a panel fitted to the Nav’s station of a Canberra (not sure which MK though!) 🙂
Richy.
Bloody well said moocher !!!
If they catch the thieving gits how about sticking a big pole where the sun don’t shine and put them up on display in a public place??? :diablo:
To coin a phrase ( if that’s ok Moocher) ‘thats not very pc is it, political correctness can **** off as well.’ :p :p :p

Hi,
Yes the cockpit’s are going to be removed from their fuselage’s, last I heard (please correct me if I am wrong) the rest of the airframe is going to be tin can fodder !!!!

Stirling project
Hi,
I haven’t heard anything untoward regarding the Stirling Project, I have been busy relocating to another base. I will get in touch with our illustrious leaders and get the low down on what’s going on. At the moment we are safe at RAF Wyton, but there are rumbling’s of imminant move’s etc but a lot of this is down to scare mongering!
On another note Doc Stirling I have not forgotten !!!!
Cheers

Stirling recovery
Hi DS,
Yes, eventually ! At present the Stirling Project members are scattered around the country and not much is being done to get the ‘relics’ ready for display. But this is soon changing as one of our members is heading back to the Wyton are to live. There is another one of our members in the area but he cannot move these items on his own as they are very heavy, the last thing we need is the old health and safety chappie kicking us out ! ( You should have seen the hole punched through the back of the flatbed when the Chinook ‘placed’ the undercarriage on it !!! 😮 )

Stirling recovery
Hi Garry,
Just to clear the point up about the Peak District recovery. I am part of the Stirling Project and I agree, in some respects, that remains of crashed aircraft should stay where they fell. But in this case the land owner was getting upset at the amount of ‘visitors’ that were going across the commons to see the remains, due to the fact that a lot of pheasant shooting goes on there. So we were approached and asked if we could salvage what was left of this Stirling, which of course we did.
It’s not the fact that we do not care about the feelings of others but in this case it was ‘get there first before the scrappy does ! ‘ It took three days of very hard work to bring these remains down off the commons (with the help of a Chinook !) just so we could preserve them, and suffering three broken fingers in the process. 😮
Hope this clears up any confusion before myself, and the Stirling Project become the focus of a hate campaign. 😀
Cheers

Paul,
No offence taken paul, up until a few years ago I found myself laughing at the very same topic !!!
You will all know when it comes off I can assure you !

Stirling
Hi Steve,
Don’t really know the exact details (but will try to get them for you if you like ) but around about 1945 the British Government did in fact give the Russian’s one of our Stirling’s for test and evaluation purposes The only reason I can think of is that they did not have the resources to develop their own and decided to do a bit of reverse engineering. When they concluded their testing etc it was taken apart into it’s original component parts and put in a hangar.
Now I am not sure when they dismantled it but it is still in a disassembled state at present. Half of it was transported to a location in the South East of Russia back in 2001 – 2003 (ish !) But recently the rest of it is reportedly on it’s way to join the other half.
I am very sorry I have been a little vague with the details but as I have mentioned before on another post the next year should ( Finger’s crossed !!) be very exciting.
I will try and dig out more details as to the reasoning behind the original move.

Stirling
Hi all,
Is this the Stirling that was gifted to Russia’s equivalent of our Boscombe down ?
