I agree that T5, along with the rest of the LHR terminals, is very poorly maintained and cleaned, I guess it’s part of the aviation industry (and British industry in general) being in something of a race to the bottom lately, with every penny possible being pinched.

Just to be clear though, T5 belongs to Heathrow Airport Ltd not British Airways PLC and as such the responsibility for cleaning rests with HAL except in areas leased specifically by another company for their sole use, eg: BA Lounges, M&S shops, TFL stations, etc.

One of the prettiest aircraft ever built. Beautiful.

Even during an emergency situation people can’t resist using their electronics at a time when they have been told to turn them off. The cynic in me wonders whether our obsession with filming things is motivated by the media’s willingness to pay good money for footage.

Also interesting to see how many people took their hand baggage with them when leaving the aircraft.

Agree that it looks like another job well done by the crew.

Have the titles on the TOM 767 in the distance really faded or is it a trick of the light?

But code-sharing with BA? Let’s get real Doors, this is SRB we’re talking about 😀

Fair comment, I didn’t actually mean codeshare, what I meant was booking passengers on BA flights, or interlining, as already happens to quite some considerable extent.

Thinking about it I should answer my own question:

Ditch Little Red (stupid name) and stick with code sharing for domestics, BA for LHR and BE for LGW.

Ditch the 747’s, no point carting hoards of people around at break-even prices, using the smaller aircraft should push yield up.

Ditch the orders for 380 and 787 for now. Get things turned round then have another look at new aircraft.

Standardise on the 340-600 for high yield routes from LHR.

Get the right 330, I believe the series they have acquired has payload and range issues for the VS route network. Then standardise on this for the leisure routes from LGW and MAN*.

*I’m inclined to say ditch the MAN operation but I am mindful of the MAN contigient on the forums and don’t know much about the MAN operation and it’s profitability. I would see more sense in perhaps offering MCO from MAN and several other UK regional airports with frequency from each set to match demand.

Cherry pick the right business routes from LHR so that they are all profitable in their own right.

Develop a bigger Caribbean (and other leisure route) network from LGW (to rival BA) and make them all direct to give the edge over BA on certain routes.

Stop carrying Virgin Holidays punters at break-even prices. Let holidays do their own thing and if they want to use VS let them do it at a profitable price.

Continue to invest in the product while cutting costs elsewhere.

Introduce a LGW ground product to match that at LHR but with an emphasis on leisure travel.

MOST IMPORTANTLY STOP DOING THINGS TO STROKE SRB’s EGO AND PUBLICITY SEEKING STREAK AND FRETTING ABOUT WHAT BA ARE UP TO AND GET ON WITH SENSIBLE BUSINESS.

At first I thought the Azerbaijan 319 was called Ganja, then I thought no it can’t be, then I found this:

turns out Ganja is an Azerbaijani city, still it made me chuckle for a minute.

    London Croydon International sounds crap!

Not that sounding crap has stopped other airports introducing new names.

Surely Crawley would be a more appropriate title?

    Or Horley.

    Great set of pic’s.

I had it in my head that LOT had dropped London.

I wonder what EK’s load factors are like on 5 A380s to and from DXB every day.

I like the Easy/Loganair shot best.

Anyone know how long the BA pigeons are going to be around? I’m guessing a while as some of the former BD aircraft are only recently painted up. I really don’t like them.

When I am Minister For Transport, I will allow the 3rd runway but I will limit its capacity so that LHR is not back in the same 90+% congested state within a few years f building it.

    I vote Skymonster!

Agree with everything else you say too, except for I hate AMS. Maybe I’m unlucky with gates but whenever I’ve occassionally used AMS I seemed to be forever walking along never-ending piers.

A strange livery indeed, and not a particularly good looking one either. The other odd thing is it appears to be a freighter without a freight door.

It will be just the like bmi takeover at LHR…they’ll rape the carrier for all its worth !

A little strong surely. As I understand it they paid good money for an airline that was on the verge of bankruptcy, merged most of the fleet, any worthwhile routes and as many staff as was possible. None of us like to see an airline disappear but if anyone ‘raped’ bmi it was surely Lufthansa.

Back on subject: Don’t think the Hop name will work in France and think the livery is non-descript.

its bolder, brighter and better than their previous ones that’s for sure!

Ah, now you see I like that one, simple and effective. Or maybe it’s because that’s from the era I became interested in commercial aviation.
