I think I like it but I’m going to reserve judgement until I see it in the flesh. The thing I find odd is that in a country so proud of it’s flag they’ve changed the ‘stars and stripes’ to ‘stripes and stripes’. Maybe to give it a sense of movement?
I think I’m unusual in that I never really liked the previous livery but I do understand that it had been around for so long it was iconic to many.
both flights half full.
Yes, I will say I have flown SOU GLA, LGW BHD, BHD GLA and LGW NCL several times each in the last year and have seldom seen an aircraft anything like full, usually less than half, whereas my BA flights over the same period have without exception been full to capacity.
more capacity could be found moving to larger aircraft.
It could, but for shorthaul flying the high-paying business traveller demands frequency otherwise there is no point in paying extra for flexible tickets. For shorthaul routes there is a fine balance of frequency vs aircraft size for airlines to get right.
I’m sure several airports will very soon have Heathrow in their sights if a UK government don’t grow a pair and give Heathrow another runway, and without years of enquiries and pandering to nimby’s. Simple fact is that more high-yield pax want to fly from LHR than many other UK airports and all the pretty new terminals won’t mean a thing without more runway capacity.
Great photo but I really dislike Monarch’s current scheme.
A real shame that Flybe find themselves in this position, I fly with them regularly and really rate them.
I’ve been in that position several times over the years and it’s not pleasant.
The article I had seen implied that the ‘back office’ would be most affected so surprised to hear it’s mostly ‘front of shop’.
Wishing you (and your colleagues) the best of luck Deano. Keep us informed.
Great video, made me think of these:
Likewise.
Officially the minimum connection time between T5 and T1 and vice versa is 90 minutes . I’ve done it a few times recently and it’s always been very straightforward and much quicker.
I hope you have a great trip, I’ve been flying with BA a fair bit recently and I have to say despite sometimes having fairly negative press on this forum I’ve been very impressed particularly with the staff.
As ever from Emirates looks like a great product but personally I’m not a fan of the middle east look, it’s a bit gaudy for my liking. I’d probably still give it a go though given the chance and the funds.
I know nothing about Avios but the question that springs to my mind is:
Is the number of points needed based on distance flown or the cost of the ticket? If the latter then has the number of points needed gone up because the ticket costs now more than when you checked in April?
Either way, sorry about your disappointment.
The problem with these flights is always going to be frequency (or rather lack of it).
With the proposed frequency connections at LHR are going to be too long in a lot of cases meaning people will often choose BA anyway.
As for competing with BA for the business travellers, without similar frequency to BA their is no incentive to pay high end fares which is the only hope a full service carrier has of breaking even on UK domestic routes.
Following the purchase the availability of these seats dried up as BA stopped offering these to ‘non’ One-World carriers
I’ve just booked GLA/LHR(BA)/LHR/HKG(VS) for my parents through the VS website. BA interline with dozens of non-Oneworld airlines.
Great pictures there, still really loving the Thai livery, gotta love the 340-600.
I really love the shade of red VS are using now although I still think the VS title typeface is too fine. Agreed Matt about it being wrong if BA ever went for a ‘razzmatazz look’. Safe, solid and reliable is BA’s selling point.
I believe it was intially stated that Avion Express would operate the flights but then for some reason that statement was changed to Aer lingus. Not certain though.
These flights were always going to be wet-lease so no surprise there except that I might have expected an ACMI specialist rather than EI.
Let’s face it VS domestics are just another example of Branson having bright ideas that VS management then have to implement to save face on his behalf. I don’t think anyone expects these flights to be around for long (even VS given the wet-lease vs in-house decision) so I also didn’t expect any major investment in aircraft cabins.
Perhaps the ground products and inflight service will differentiate them from BA domestics but I doubt it, they are going to struggle to make money on these flights as it is without spending a fortune on what they offer in terminals and onboard.
I really rate VS as an airline but if Branson put as much effort into his business as he does trying to get one up on BA I’d rate them more.
