Enjoy your flights and holiday Cloud.
I will be full of praise for EZY if/when they introduce allocated seating, I HATE the current system, not so much the free seating onboard, more that they have you standing in queues as soon as the aircraft arrives on stand. The second of only two occassions that I used them they left everyone in the queues even while they saw to a tech problem. Speedy boarding is IMHO also a bit of a farce, on that same flight everyone at the gate bar an elderly couple were in the Speedy queue.
Shame really as both flights were fantastic once everyone was boarded and settled.
Agreed Giblets, until the take overs of the 3 companies are complete they probably have very little information to offer.
Also Comet, if the company that buys any given part of the company decides not to continue with a route or specific flight I would imagine those with reservations would be rebooked elsewhere or refunded.
Just seen on Jethro’s that the two BD 330’s are for disposal end of S12, no surprise there really.
And still nothing about the buyers of Regional and Baby.
The IAG/BD deal is to be complete by the 20th so the next 10 days should see things happening fairly quickly. Will be interesting to see.
Also wonder at the wisdom of VS going for the BA slots. If they are serious, can they really make a go of any of the routes with such a limited number of slots? If they aren’t serious, isn’t it time for SRB to stop fretting about what other airlines, airports, and bodies are doing and concentrate on his own airline which isn’t exactly the trailblazer it once was?
I think it’s the BKK-SYD sector that BA are dropping, not the LHR-BKK.
Thanks for the input everyone. You see my problem now, lots of conflicting info on the ‘net, mostly caused I think by the fact that they ended up operating for Caledonian whilst still technically owned by BA.
but there is, however, an announcement imminent about something we know nothing about
Intriguing, could it be Flybe taking over BA’s shorthaul routes at LGW? That’s been rumoured for some time and I understand BA are currently deciding whether or not to replace the 737 fleet with a decision imminent.
Its an airline called Blue Air.
Who I believe operate B737-300/400/500 aircraft.
Looks like IAG won’t be getting bmi Baby along with the main airline as a buyer has been found.
Although the buyer is under wraps for now LS have already issued a statement that it isn’t them. Interestingly BE and EZY have issued statements saying that they can’t confirm either way whether or not they are the buyer.
Any theories?
Still no further info on bmi Regional either. All very secretive on the bmi subsidiaries takeovers.
Longest scheduled flight out of Heathrow is to Singapore.
Not so. From ba.com:
LHR-SIN is scheduled at 12h35 or 12h50.
LHR-EZE is scheduled at 13h40 as lucas has said.
Based on scheduled times the shortest is probably LHR-MAN at 1h00 or 1h05 depending on which departure. AMS, BRU and CDG all come up as scheduled at about 1h10 or 1h15.
The only other thing that springs to mind as possibly shorter is LHR-JER but I don’t think anyone operates this route now, BA moved JER down to LGW and I think BD dropped the route.
Any chance of sharing the video with us?
It is stunning but with all that black paint it’ll be a nightmare to control the cabin temperature on the ground in hot countries.
I wondered that too but thinking about it EDI and GLA are close to each other as are EDI and NCL. GLA and NCL are a little further apart so could it just be a simple case of not saturating the catchment areas of the three airports by serving the two that are slightly further apart?
the takeover of BD mainline by BA at the currently agreed price was on the condition that LH sold the Baby division, and that a significant price reduction would be in order if a buyer could not be found?
The takeover of BD mainline by IAG, but otherwise correct.
if BA/IAG is forced to take on the Baby division, would they perhaps look to hive it off to BE
Although BA does own 15% of BE it is a silent partner so has no say in BE’s affairs and I really don’t see BE wanting WW. I think it more likely IAG would look to offload WW to LS (the fit would be better for LS than BE) for a nominal fee. If that doesn’t work then I fear WW will be history.
Loving this thread more… more… more..
I love Vee’s first shot at LHR, how loud would that scene have been? VC10, BAC1-11, Viscount and Trident, fantastic.
The gatwick shots also evoke memories of how aircraft should sound. My house is about 3 miles straight off the West end of the Gatwick runway and it’s amazing how much quieter it is here to when I moved in 25 years ago, still miss the DA 1-11’s thundering over, EZY 319’s don’t really do it for me.
Also loving the Shed shots, always had a soft spot for the Short 360, don’t know why. Anyone got any more?
