    #1 is a tie between:
Harrier (see above post) and S-2 Tracker:
    Argentina
    Australia
    Brazil
    Canada
    Netherlands
    United States
    (and many land-based)

    #3 A-4 Skyhawk:
    Argentina
    Australia
    Brazil
    United States
    (and 6 other nations land-based)

    Other candidates?

I think India also operated SkyHawks in its carrier Vikrant

i believe that Iran is a responsible country. It has a democratically elected President (even though realmpower lies elsewhere). I think Pakistan is more dangerous than Iran with respect to nuclear proliferation. Dictators are dangerous and unpredictable. it cant be said of as a responsible nuclear power as Abdul Khader episode revealed.

Regarding Israel, i wont trust it either. It is a country that has never hesitated from using force to its advantage. It gets aid from America and sells technologies developed to its potential enemies. It is paranoid, more so because it sorrounded by hostile countries and the memories of holocaust.

Read my statement again. I Said Now
Russia after Cold has not built a new nuclear reactor for itself nor it has built new nuclear weopons large scale.
and u can see that from there budget figures for nuclear industry and defense budget.
just one or two years they have started tests on more long range weopons.
and that is one of the reasons that Iran carries 60s and 70s era US weopons and couldnot pay for S-300 and new Flankers because they spent too much on Nuke/missile industry.

yaaa..The Topol M and Bulava missiles were made by iran :diablo:

Politicians are rarely held in high regard for honesty in any country

True…But in Russia (if the report is correct) it seems that it is an extreme case..I thought Putin enjoyed much more popularity.

So what is friday times credibility? and how world bank can calculate GDP. does world bank has statistician sitting in every government office?
regarding China there is only beliefs not facts.

Who else is a better source than WB?
WB does not need a statistician sitting in every government office..

but i dont think its easy to comment abt China as much of the information is filtered..But Pak is a different matter. With IMF looking into its affairs, their figures could be easily verified

how many Hawkeyes need to be carried by Gorshkov? 2 or 3?

Also wont it reduce the no. of MiGs carried?
So Ka -31s will not be needed..How much space will be saved by this that can be given for Hawkeyes?

“Overwing launch rails were originally fitted, at least to the single-seaters, for carriage of the Matra Magic AAM,”

Exactly what part of the above sentence do you have a problem understanding?

originally MIGHT mean that during their first batch induction(which you say is in 77) or second batch and so on..The date of actual induction of such a system is not explicitily stated..
I am NOT saying that Omani jags didnt have overwing pylons, i just mean to say that the article does not mentio clearly which year it was inducted…

Was Magic available in 1977 for Omanis?

after reading all your posts and some searching on net , i came to certain conclusions.. they are mine and you can dispute….

    1) Overhead pylons were not discovered by Indians

    2) Brits didnt integrate any overhead pylon missile with JAG before Indians

3)India integrated Matra Magic missiles with JAG on overhead pylons.Indians were the first to do so. They had the capability and need as their superiority over PAF the was not much.

4)Brits didnt feel the need for overhead pylons in their JAGs till 91.

” All Omani Jaguars were all painted in a brown / sand desert camouflage scheme. Overwing launch rails were originally fitted, at least to the single-seaters, for carriage of the Matra Magic AAM, but for some obscure reason the Omanis decided to switch to carrying AIM-9P Sidewinders on the outboard underwing pylons. Oman actually assigned its Jaguars an air-defense role. ”

Happy!? Or let me guess, your ASTE developed the Omani Jags as well!? 😉

Omans Jags were delivered in 1977, and they were using launch rails, so lets end this stupid debate here and now, as frankly lots of users here would get more credit if they just admited they may be wrong and for once their countries claims are wrong, there is no shame in it….

The date of introduction of overhead pylons is not given..it may be a later improvisation

    Austin,
The role of mirages as nuclear weapon delivery platforms is a very good point. But then do we need 125 of them?…
As interceptor, MiG 29 is better though a little more maintenance intensive..

So i think its better to buy Mirages for 2 squadrons(n-delivery) and buy 20-30 MiG 29s and wait for the LCAs..The cash saved can be used for some other purposes like hastening the production of LCAs and researching MCA..Other fighter programs like FC 1, J 10 are also behind schedule and so India need not be worried abt a fall in relative capability with respect to China or Pak…

I thought americans were not concerned abt money and quality was their concern… i think times have changed..Now due to budgetary pressure 1 a/c for performing the roles of 2 a/cs is being developed…I think it may be because the fancy F22s and f35s are guzzling all the money…When the USN comes against Chinese navy armed with Su 30mkks , God save them….

even if f35 is developed then also USN will not have the best air defence fleet .. it will be France with Rafales..If f35 is not developed then USN will have substandard fighters than third world country like India which will have MiG 29s in 2008.

Tomcat is/was and always will be a better a/c than ‘fluper’ hornet

ink, with all respect, you can read everything what you want, but the berkut desing have nothing to do with the flanker (maybe only that huge nose 😀 ), about the flankrum :p lerx design, is completely diferent of the berkut-f18 lerxs

well that was an personal opinion, but i think that internal bay concept is an waste of time and resources, simpler is better.

If there is no internal bay then the aircraft will not be stealthy. So what is the point in having a new aircraft ?. A new non-stealthy plane is 4th gen only..Perhaps 4.999 but still 4th gen.

There is no point in making a new aircraft if its not going to be stealthy..The Su 3x series with TVC is as maneouverable as F22 and the load capacity and range are also good..Its better to add new avionics to them than develop a new non-stealthy plane.
