On a similar note there has been much discussion over the years as to how long Virgin will keep the Atlantic part of their name. [/B]
Virgin World ? Virgin Global ? just plain Virgin Airways ?
Ha ha. Didn’t Virgin also have a poster advert at JFK some years ago about their transatlantic service, featuring Mike Myers in his Austen Powers get up… ?
It read some thing like “Sh*g your way across the Atlantic Baby!”:D
Looking good with the 747 alongside…
Here’s the 707, Clipper Nightingale (N884PA)…
Good story and pictures, always nice to hear of an airline’s origins.:D

Minor thread hijack here but I had a climb over your (Monarchs) new A321 in Hangar 7/8 at LUT yesterday. Very nice…got that new car smell!
Did you have your little camera on your person Wys ? 😉
I often think the 777 can look an awful lot like a 738 from a certain angle and not just that one.;)
Great picture, although I’m still very much undecided as to whether or not I approve of these aircraft being displayed like models on the roof of Sinsheim Museum… ?

… rumours in the pipelines that one of the HS748s is going in for a major revamp, so we could be seeing a 1960s vintage a/c in these colours too shortly!
Now that would be something..
Lovely… !:D

Does someone knows why this 741 has only 3 windows at the upper deck?
The 747-100 series had a three window upper deck in most cases, I think there are some 100’s with the now familiar extra windows ? This wasn’t established as a regular feature until the 200 series came along. The 300 series stretched the upper deck, as has the current 400 series.
Here’s the real version of the model, complete with three windows on the upper deck. This was taken in 1977 a month before it was wiped out at Tenerife North in the ground collision with a KLM 747.

Another shot of Pan Am N736PA, Clipper Victor… (complete with tiny dust particles giving some indication of the 1:400 scale.)
