Here it is from my usual vantage point at the corner of the bar. That’s Albert and Alec having a fly lunchtime pint or four…;)

Here’s my local, The Strathmore Bar on Maryhill Road in Glasgow. It used to be part of a tenement building, but as is the Scottish tradition, they knocked down the rest of the building and kept the pub.:D

Maryhill for the uninitiated, is where the TV show Taggart is set and is a charming liitle suburb located between the refined, upmarket West End of Glasgow and the rough and reckless North side where Ali Babba once trained the forty thieves.

The Strathmore (or Strathie) is situated next to the local fire station and across the road from a large residential village belonging to the University of Glasgow. The clientele therefore is a heady mix of artisan tradesmen, students and psychotic axe wielding maniacs. The latter being most prevalent on dominoes night.

Tuesday is a quiet night, Wednesday is quiz night, Thursday is bingo (for the ladies) Friday and Sunday are karaoke and a Saturday normally features some form of live entertaining such as a musical turn or simply all out wrestling and chair tossing.

The Strathie is run by a lovely young blonde bar owner named Senga. Senga’s deputy is the equally lovely Lindsay who kicks ass for a living. The other barstaff are Yvonne (x2), Frances and Billy who is also Senga’s brother.

A warm welcome awaits you in the Strathmore Bar !
