    RE: Jade from Big Brother

I used the downstairs toilets on an Airtours A330 last January enroute to Gran Canaria. The toilet block is contained within an optional module fitted by Airbus. This module can also be configured as a crew rest area, a bar or a shop amongst other things. It does take up some cargo space, but helps to give the impression of being on a larger, less claustrophobic plane. The spiral staircase going down to the module also offers an alternative to the normal up and down the aisle’s thrombosis defeating strolls we’ve become accustomed to.

Is it true that that lead vocalist from UK heavy metal band Iron Maiden Bruce Dickinson, is now a qualified 1st officer and flying for Easyjet ?

I’m sure I read that somewhere.

Didn’t Delta also donate one or more of it’s last Tristars to the Flying Hospital project ? It may have been just for spare parts mind you!

RE: Help. Civil Aviation in Scotland

There’s a couple of good books on the history of Scottish Aviation available. I don’t think they are currently in print but I’ve had them from my local library from time to time.

One is mainly about Renfrew/Abbotsinch/Sanderling/Glasgow and it’s by a writer called Dugald Cameron (I think). Can’t remember the title unfortunately right now. There’s another which takes a more general look at the history of Scottish civil aviation upto the early 1990’s and again I can’t offer more details, it’s been a few years since I borrowed them from the library.

I got them from the main library in Paisley and will pop in the next time I visit to see if they are still there to get the names and publishing info.

I’ve been planning to do some research into the Scottish aviation scene myself for ages, the intention being to produce a short film about the subject. Can’t find the time to devote to it though which is a pain.

Couldn’t agree more. Did GLA-DUB-LAX and back again with them in June. Best Atlantic crossing I’ve done. Very good service, very nice people. Wish ’em all well for the future !

Maybe those stealth “Spirit” bombers aren’t as invisible as they think ?

Er.. dumb question this I suppose.

Is the Airbus plant situated within Toulouse Airport or is a separate site elsewhere ?

Damn right I didn’t, although as cameramen we’re trained to notice such continuity errors. Mind you we’d all been out the night before and were a little ‘tired’!

Well folks I work as a BBC camera op and this weekend I attended a training course in London, hence my Gatwick query elsewhere. We were given some old Eastenders tapes to view, in order to discuss the lighting techniques. The prog I got was one of those “we’re all off to sunny Spain” specials from a few years back.

Anyway, various shots of the cast in a standard studio interior mockup for the inflight stuff, they cut to a shot of the plane taking off which was stock Boeing PR footage of a 737-300/400 ? in company colours. A few more interior shots were followed up with another shot of the plane landing. This time some even older looking stock of what I think was Dan Air and defo a 200 series!!!

Needless to say I was the only one who noticed.

Thanks for the info guys and great pictures too. How about this teaser… There was an old Vickers Viking parked at Glasgow Airport in the 80’s which was used by the fire training crews until it was moved to a museum in Dumfries I think?

Anyone know what became of her ? And also at Glasgow, an old Trident now in BAA colours. How many discarded Tridents do we think are lying around in the UK at the moment and wouldn’t it be nice to see some restorations going on?

My best route was Aer Lingus via Dublin. It’s an A330-200 and a very pleasant service. You clear US immigration in Dublin as well which saves a lot of time at the other end.

My friend works at Glasgow Airport, delivering the in flight catering and duty free to aircraft. He boarded an Atlanta 747 and was amazed to find the seats upholstered in a vast collection of airline’s styles.

He didn’t reckon he’d fly with them much!

Local press here in Glasgow also speculates an announcement from BMI Baby confirming Prestwick Airport as it’s Scottish base. 28/8/02

Is that Aer Lingus EI-ORD ? If so I was on it to LAX in June. Lovely flight, lovely plane.

Also been on Airtours A330 and JMC B757 lately, could they be the same planes too ????

My recent Aer Lingus A330 flight to Los Angeles had them outbound but not on the way back.
