20 minutes along the A14/M11, if the traffic is flowing, and it just seems like every day.

Is it bad that the first thing I do when I get up is to come to the Duxford diary and see the latest comings and goings!

Cheers to Duxman, DCW and Penpusher for all the fantastic updates!

    Roll on the season!

wow – like a mini legends yesterday!

How many spitfires are now based at Duxford? Must be well into double figures including 4 mark 1s, a brace of Vs, 2 IXs, a XIV and TrIX? Not including the grace, boultbee and Richard Lake pair who spend alot of time there through the summer months?

Long gone. One went to Spain, one to France (and got burned up), one to Hendon, one returned to the US and the final one went to Belgium some years ago.

Slight thread drift – what’s the score with the French B25?

Is this a complete write off or has restoration started again?

Is that dismantled SE5 going to be a flyer too? I would love to see two of them in the air together as it is my favourite fighter aircraft from the Great War.

Maybe 3 if the example at Bentwaters can get ready for the summer…

Funny enough I was thinking about the firefly the other day that was sold at the same time – any idea who owns this? I’m assuming the sea fury is Jan Roozen – could he own the firefly as well??

I’m sure I speak for everybody when I say I cannot wait to see a gladiator and cr42 formation. Saying that – a gladiator and Blenheim formation is also rather mouthwatering!

Especially if the third gladiator can be made airworthy in the future!

Uh! Where do you get this BS? We have manuals for the A-74RC38 in Italian and English and the Fits and Clearances in German which have been translated into English. Engine modifications have been copied from manuals held by the Swedish Air Force Museum.

Our friends in Italy and Sweden, individuals and groups (GAVS) have come up real trumps with copies of manuals covering most aspects of the aircraft, yes, even the fabric covering which is done differently to the norm. The latest find was a manual giving detail of the colour codes painted on the various system pipelines for identification purposes, they are being painted on today.
GAVS members have been trawling the Fiat archives in Turin trying to find some engine drawings, others are looking for Italian UNI specifications prior to 1964.

The support we have had for this project from our European friends has been incredible.

We are still looking for original fuel system components, the fuel cocks are push pull, so if you know …….

    I told ya….?

Does anyone have any further update to this exciting restoration project?

The last I heard was that they were still searching for some parts – Beaufighter Vi is the man in the know.

Still with Clive Denney at Vintage fabrics at Audley end as far as I’m aware.

This is one hell if a project!!

They did the trip ! Clive Davidson flew it.

As for the remains, most of the bits I saw would fit in the boot of your average car (though not all together )

Sorry I should have said the 2nd one – plan was to permenantly base it in Finland – sort of makes sense why It had the temporary finish markings now

Phillip flew CBOE on just one occasion- read into that what you will.

So much for the plan to take it to Finland then.

That’s the one Huw – they certainly aren’t going to be able to store it in the BHHH – it’s amazing they fit them all in!

Interesting! Wonder what the winding up of Phoenix means for the Hurricane under restoration, I presumed that they would have completed it before it went to the new owner.

I’m sure Phillip lawtons hurri is in the late stages but still some work to do.

Unless hawker restorations will take up the mantle once the mk1 has flown, would be the most logical place??

Would be great to have that silver beauty at Biggin – perhaps the new German owner is in with the other historics at Biggin??? The name escapes me?? The guys with the fox moth etc??

    Hi

They were restoring two Lysander : one static in yellow/black target tug scheme, for the Army Air Museum of Brussels and their own flying one after its emergency landing accident in 2011.
In fact, the flying one was provided by the Army Museum in the 80’s with an agrement that when the plane will be grounded, it will come to the Museum for static display.
After the accident the association decided to acquire an other wreck in Canada and restore it for static display to be free of the agremment with the Museum and been allowed to restore the flying one.
Last information in 2010, the plane was “complete” with engine runs peformed, but since thant I was unnable to gain any information.
I visited them in 2003 or 2004 in their previous hangar in Brussels airport and saw the two Lysanders and their Lodestar awaiting restoration.

I will be happy to have recent news : this team did an incredible work restoring this plane, and had a few setbacks: the engine incident with the subsecent landing accident, the banckrupt of the Sabena (they have to fight to avoid the plane to be seized), they lost their hangar, etc

    Regards

    Iclo

This is the last I heard from Danu stockman

Hi Mark, we do not plan anything, the reason we apply for tyre fitting Lysander and we just find the good size and now we have to test them for our DGTA. Second reason since last year we can not anymore do our carburetor and magneto here in Brussels so we send it to Vintech. We expect the test flight as soon we ready, normally mid year. Any way I will advice all our friend and supporter of our association in time. Thanks any way for your desire to see our plane in the air again. Best. Dany
