Dont forget if its a RAAF Caribou, they had a small piece of angle iron held onto the strut by sealastic, acted as a “heavy landing indicator” Heavy landing, angle iron gone!
Takes me back to my days in the RAAF when I served at Butterworth with 3 and 75SQN Mirages. Some of the cartoons are not that far from the truth!
Maybe a myth, however a story that got around about the ex RAAF Bloodhounds that were based in Darwin, if they were ever fired in a certain direct, the first stage booster rockets would have landed in the RAAF married quarter patch?
I was in the RAAF at the time of the C130E retirement and was also based at Richmond. I can assure you than no C130E’s were put on static display( althought many wished one would have ended up as a gate guard). Some ended up as training aids(four frames from memory), one went to the RAAF Museum at Point Cook and the remaining seven went to sales. I am of the belief that one C130H will also be displayed at Point Cook.
12 C130J’s and 6 C17’s with 10 C27’s on order!
Unless they are ex RAAF C130H’s and the Australian Government give them away, or in their spin doctoring talk “gifted”!

What flying(airshow) is planned for May 2013 at Duxford, think about coming over once again during that period!

Keith, According to Wlkepedia, there are descendants of R.J Mitchell and his wife Florence, I’m sure that our UK friends on this forum would give you a good lead on them and the possibility of the photograph you seek. Also, have you been in contact with the RAF Museum Hendon, it maybe worth a try?
The mighty Mirage, as we used to say when I was in the RAAF “it had the gliding capability of a crowbar”
Thanks for the responses, passed the info on!

Sorry guys I jumped the gun there, a quick bit of research and would have answered my own question, yes it is the same aircraft. I remember it being based at RAAF Richmond a few years ago when I was there!
