Lanc crews were virtually always 7. Sometimes a “second dickie” (pilot on first op) came making up 8. Dont know how they can do it with 5 unless they ignore both gunner positions and film ahead of the main spar where the Pilot, Flight Engineer, Navigator, Wireless Op and bomb aimer are located. To be honest if they planned doing all interior and exterior lanc filming on one day then it sounds a little low budget. Hope not.

I’d like to see it as well. Apparently filmed at East Kirkby with Just Jane. Don’t know when its out this autumn.

Hmmm. Not sure but is that Guy Gibson’s signature on the left ? The flying Lanc has no top turret so a Dambuster ? Is it a Dambuster flying over a gate guardian somewhere, Scampton perhaps ? You’ve probably realised I’m guessing by now !

    Hi Peter

Thanks for the reply (and welcome). I’ve done a little bit of diggiging and yes it apprears the Martin turrets had some interruption mechansim. Not sure if electrical or mechanical.

Thankyou Cees thats cleared that up for me. Just out of interest how did the Martin turret operate without the taboo rack ? ie was there some other way to ensure the MUG didn’t hit his own tail fins ?

    Hello

    Hello all,

First post so would just like to say hello to everyone and congratulations on a superb forum.

Posted here first as I’ve a turret question thats been bothering me. I realise that the vast majority of Lancaster turrets were FNs with various modifications happening to the rear turrets for the twin 0.5s (was the Rose turret a FN ?). However I thought that all MUG turrets in Lancs had a collar type mechanism that elevated the guns so making it impossible for the gunner to hit the rear tail. Looking at Just Jane the Lanc appears to have the regular FN turret but no collar type mechanism. Was the MkVii originally made without a dorsal turret and JJ has had one retrofitted without the collar ?
