You need to post a link to the source for a news story.

See the link for a Brazilian website. This site is the most reputable journal Aeronautica of Brazil.

The purchase of those Jordanian F-5E was announced over 3 years ago.

You’re right, but the authorization of the Brazilian government to modernize it only happened on 24/12/2010.
The first 3 F-5 arrived in Sao Paulo on 19/08/2008 transported by an An-124.

    What missiles will they carry?

The missiles that can be integrated with radar Grifo F are aim-120, Mica, R-Darter, Derby and also Russian missiles.
The FAB will use Derby (received in 2006) for BVR combat and dogfighter the MAA-1 Piranha and Python 3.
Brazil participates in the construction of the A-Darter missile and will be the future of the F-5M.

I didn’t quite understand the part on how it seems very easy to copy an aircraft like the A400M.

    You had written the following:

“Basically someone just copy-pasted the A400M order and changed the name to KC-390.”

I mean what is best for Portugal to copy the A400M, as you said you did Embraer, and build a complete airplane in Portugal. Rather than manufacture some components as is done with the KC-390. Build a copy of the A400M will generate more jobs than just making parts of the KC-390.

I’ve just looked at the pictures in the first post, & discovered that they don’t match those now on the Embraer site. KC-390 has grown since then.

    Current details –
    Three-view drawing

    Performance & cargo box dimensions

You’re right, actually increased what were now the width of 33.95 meters to 35.05 meters, the length increased from 33.91 to 33.50 meters. The height decreased from 11.35 meters to 10.26 meters.

In designing the initial KC-390 was named C-390 because it would be a tanker and its tail was not in the shape of T.

In the picture you can see the initial design

The only thing that the Portuguese order is doing in that list is trying to get some components built in Portugal since EMBRAER owns a large portion of shares of OGMA and has been talking, and talking, and talking, about opening more aerospace factories in Portugal.

Basically someone just copy-pasted the A400M order and changed the name to KC-390.

Now with our current fleet of C-295 it doesn’t make much sense buying the KC-390, might as well either buy the C-130J-30 or the A400M.

    Best regards,

Portugal could take the drawing of a C-130J and A400M or build that would ensure more jobs than building only parts of the KC-390. After all, it seems easy to copy an aircraft like the A400M.

Brazil also uses the C-295 (12 planes) and yet is investing in the KC-390. The C-295 has a load capacity of 9.2 tons and is in another category.

Does the MRTA and C-295 were also copies of the A400M, or some other?

obs.: KC-390 will use components and structures of the EMB-170 and EMB-190 (both with over 600 aircraft sold) rather than the A400M.

It is easy to place an order when the project is still on paper. Just look at all the orders for the A400 and Typhoon when they were at prototype stage. I think this will be a good transport and I hope all of these orders will proceed but I bet some of these orders will be either canceled or reduced.

You’re right, example is the F-22 fighters to the 750 now ends its initial production of 186 fighters. 🙂

The KC-390 will be a challenge for the Company, but is able to do it. This is because the KC-390 will share the operating EMB-170 and EMB-190 (both with over 670 aircraft sold and other 916 firm orders).
Other examples of the Embraer ERJ-145 are the AEW & C, ERJ 145 MP / ASW and ERJ-145 Multi Intel (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance – ISR). Civilian aircraft were adapted for military use. Are in service in Brazil, Greece and Mexico.

Equivalent MRTA has 145 plus 55 options

Embraer Studies show that there are about 2802 aircraft in service from 1613 which has more than 25 years of service.
The studies consider the transport aircraft with between 5 to 25 tons. With the exception of China.
Excluding the U.S., Russia and Ukraine, countries committed to the A400M research sees a possibility of 700 aircraft to be replaced.
Of these 700 aircraft, Embraer expects to achieve 25% of sales.

Of course, the MRTA will sell to many countries in great quantities, besides the MRTA as a rival for the C-130J and BAe 146m.

The KC-390 is going well as expected.

The Blackhawk has 30 years of use in Afghanistan, this idea is an assumption. For extreme regions like the rugged Afghan mountains helicopters and simple maintenance are preferred.

Not to mention the money factor for each helicopter, but in this case the purchase is being decided by the U.S. government so the decision is being technical rather than financial.
    🙂
