RE: Harvard flight a dream come true

I did that as a prezzie to myself for my 30th. I paid for an hour but the wingtip stills camera’s batteries died when we took off so Thom gave me an extra 15mins. It’s worth going to Florida just to do that. I was in the yellow T-6 and after some solo aeros met up with the silver T-6 for some formation aeros and then a dogfight session. I am not a pilot and the guy having the ride in the other T-6 was at the time of his retirement the highest houred Starfighter pilot in the RCAF. We had 2 fights and drew as i got him 1st which he could not believe and was glad none of his ex-crew could see it.
After the flight i took a walk up to Stallion 51 and was greated by 11 gorgeous ’51’s, 9 of which were polished. The only regret i have is trusting my father in that the camera had new batteries in it, so why did it shut down when taking the 1st photo?
The guys at Stallion were great and left me to walk the hanger at my leisure and if the canopy was open i could sit in whatever i liked as long as i didn’t touch anything. Who outside of the U.S would be so trusting? Well certainly no-one in this country.

About time too, i thought she was in dire shape when i sat in her about 5 years ago. There were 3 phillips screws where rivets should have been. If Victor still owns her it’s about time he put his hand in those very deep pockets.
It’ll be great if she’s to be restored to her original colours with stripy cowling.

All the more so as he did all the work himself. I would have prefered to see polished metal rather than silver paint though.

Thanks for the photo’s of G-HAEC. That was a nice scheme.
I’ve heard that alot of work is needed on TFC’s new p-51 as she was not well looked after, i think it was called a ‘Tired Airframe’.
Janie does look good but i can’t stand that stupid varnished wood aerial, looks like he couldn’t afford a proper aerial so stuck a broom handle in it’s place.

I made the entire Fighter Collection years ago, it was when they had the P-63 in russian markings. I never had photos of them and i got upset one day and took an airgun to all but Moose.
    Biggest mistake i ever made.

Sadsack, i think it is you that have caught something in your zip!
Moose was by far the best looking P-51 Europe has ever seen and when my lottery numbers come up tomorrow night Moose will return but on a highly polished P-51.

    RE: strange ones

Yes that is a Skyraider, the version with the long and wide top, i think it was owned by Robs Lamplough.
Great to see all these photo’s from the Fighter Meet, probably the best airshows of there day. Sorely missed.

    RE: Mustangs

The 3rd photo of the P-51 with the ex Lindsay Walton Corsair behind is i think G-HAEC that was OFMC’s original P-51, it must have been taken during the painting for POC as it has not got the AJ-A codes on yet.

I remember seeing that P-51 in a shop window down Oxford Street, i can’t remember the name but it sold expensive poor quality flight jackets for the fashion world. It was painted in the red and white candyman racing colours. Actually i think the shops name was Avirex.

If memory serves me right it’s an A model fuselage with a H model wing. And the real things were left natural metal, not painted. Usually high ranking officers had theirs polished up a bit.
