RE: Spencer Flack killed
Yes Spencer lived in hertfordshire but had lost all interest in aviation a few years ago, he went heavily into historic racing cars.
As for the Hunter, he was the 1st to put one of these in the air, the RAF weren’t to happy about it and tried to stop the CAA allowing it to fly as the RAF still operated them. He had a real struggle trying to get the pyrotecnic’s for the ejector seat as the only way he could get them was from the RAF.
Still can’t believe it’s happened, he will be sorely missed.
RE: Yet another Spitfire yawn!
Got any of G-FURY or G-HUNT?
Never got to see either of these.
RE: Battle of Britain
If this is the DVD that has a photo of the OFMC SPitfire and Me109 over Dover on the cover, then don’t waste your money as it is crap.
It has nice colour footage of the BBMF in the 50’s when they operated the Spitfire 16’s and of Hurricane LF363 but the producers have got the negative the wrong way round so it comes out in reverse, also it’s silent.
It’s about time the ‘Battle of Britain’ movie came out on DVD with the making of the film documentary added.
I’ve written to Warner Bros onn numerous occasions about this and have never had a reply.
RE: Flying experience
I am not a pilot but i love to be thrown around the sky as often as my missus and the money allows. Unfortunatly flying in the U.K is an over-expensive hobby. Myself and a few friends from work save every week then when there is enough we fly, none of that boring straight and level stuff but high G aerobatics. We’ve had a few let downs with pilots promising this and that but they’ve never come through.
The aircraft i have flown in are Extra 300, this gives the ultimate ride and is my most flown type, i have also flown in an L-29 Delphin unfortunatly lost at Eastbourne, then there is the Harvard, had 1 ride over here, very mediochre, then went to Florida and went up for an hour with Warbird Adventures, this is the best ride on offer, unless you can afford Stallion 51 which do the same as the Harvard crew but with Mustangs, which brings me to a ride i won with the Tiger Squadron at Duxford where i won a ride in the Breitling Fighter Mustang, ORGASMIC. I have also flown in a Christen Eagle and a Stearman, they were different, Yak-52 is o.k depending on who’s flying it.
Top of my wish list is the Hawker Hunter followed closely by the Gnat, but to fly in one of these in this country is a rip off, a Hunter costs about £800 for an hour, whys the cheapest ride £1500 then, in the U.S you could get a ride in a 2-seat Super Sabre or Starfighter for that.I would like a ride in an L-39 and Yak-11.
The list could go on but the bank account don’t allow it.
: What’s your favourite airshow moment? (So far!)
Hunter 50th at Kemble is the main airshow that springs to mind, best display goes to the late, great Mark Hanna in the Hunter at the 1996 Classic Jets show at Duxford.
RE: Thunder city colours
I’d say they paint them black to make them more visible as they are such high speed aircraft.
RE: Supermarine Swift
I don’t know how the CAA operate but i remember talking to Barry Pover when he got his 1st Lightning and was going to put it on the civil scene as G-LTNG,he told me there shouldn’t be a problem with the CAA as they have allowed the Gnat to fly and that was far more complex and had a very high accident rate when used in service whereas the Lightning 2-seaters had a virtually accident free service life, also the Lightning was alot easier to maintain than the Gnat as it is Lancaster technology.
RE: Supermarine Swift up for grab
This aircraft has been up for sale for a long time, she started at $275,000 and has been dropped to $200,000,yes thats dollars not pounds and include delivery anywhere in the world, she also comes with all the documentation and drawing that Supermarines did on the Swift F7.
I doubt that she would ever fly in this country as those w**** CAA people will not allow any aeroplane with reheat to fly in civil hands.
When on a visit to Bournemouth a few years ago she was there under restoration to fly,and the engineer i spoke to told me that the fuselage was ready for fitting out and they were waiting for the wings to return from being x-rayed,if this was successful then they were going to speed up restoration.
It’s a real shame as this would be a fantastic aeroplane to see fly, talking to Ray Hanna,he told me it was a nicer aeroplane to fly at low level than the Hunter, only being bettered by the Meteor F8.
Tim Manna what are you waiting for?
RE: Breitling Fighters
There is a book called Breifing 2001, it is free with a catalogue from all Breitling stockists and has some nice pictures in it.In this book is a peice on the P-47 which is TFC’s but i have not heard of OFMC using it,but i do know they have borrowed aeroplanes in the past for solo displays around europe.
RE: TFC Mustang
As far as i was told by TFC engineers at the october show she will be returning to the skies as Princess Elizabeth but she will be highly polished like Kermit Week’s P-51B and not painted.
RE: Whistling Mustang
When at the Tiger Convention back in october we were told that the Breitling Fighters would be losing the yellow noses and that the markings would be 100% accurate.
RE: Whistling Mustang
The whistling is actually the air passing over the gunports on this particular P-51.She is also fitted with a more powerful merlin engine than usually fitted to P-51’s and she has a governor fitted to keep the speed down.
I just wish that she would be returned to her MOOSE/CANDYMAN markings as she was europes best looking P-51 in these markings.
