Here’s to the founding member who managed to hide 9 screaming turbojets from the expectant crowd……….until the last minute……
Do you remember the year he returned to lead the Arrows in a standard non-smoker after the Reds lost two gnats and four pilots in practice? (68?)
If you look carfully you can see the Loadie with one of those “Big Hands” waving out the back in this shot from a couple of years ago.
The noise inside these things is incredible! I remember landing somewhere in Shoalwater Bay, where we only used half the distance required by the Kiwi Andovers…..impressive..

VH-ZIZ was once owned by the Surrey & Kent Flying Club and is believed to be the last aircraft to officially fly out of Croydon Airport.
pilots switch from TBD’s to SBD’s to TBM’s….. and does “Top Gun” count as historic now its old and the F-14’s are no more (In US terms at least)?
The “Merlin powered BF109” film, Christopher Plummer is flying a Spitfire, catches fire in a Hurricane and bales out of a Spitfire.
As for Top Gun, they filmed the aerial footage first and as a result when the “hard deck for this op is 10,000 ft” they are flying between the mountains (big mountains in that desert)
But you knew all those, din’t you? :D[/QUOTE]
