    It’s all relative

    It was a still, hot, day in the mid 1970’s. I am up on the ridge,with the radio vehicle, overlooking our position,when we are “attacked” by six Mirages. The earth shook and this was the only occasion I’ve ever seen the top of a Mirage in flight when it was the right way up!

    – Airport disaster movies from the ’70s (What the hell where these people smoking?!)

    What are yours?

    Airport 80 is one of the funniest films ever made. Phantom vs Concorde and Concorde makes a successfull forced landing in the Alps!!!!!! Also has the worst Australian accent heard outside pommy comedies.

    Last airworthy Australian example crashed at Camden NSW in the late 80’s. This aircraft has been rebuilt using the fusalage and tailplane of a “pole sitter” and is now airworthy in the USA;

    Very sad, my sympathy goes to their families.
    Woke up to news Sunday Morning ( happened overnight our time)
    Thankfully haven’t seen any video footage. Believe this aircraft once operated by RAN.

    I gather the format for this drivel is the same the world over (yes it’s even in Australia).
    Do we have Channel 4 to thank for this or was it something the yanks thought up?
    Not a fan!

    I remeber the Poachers, The Blades, Macaws and of course the Red Pelicans. With the exception of the Red Pelicans, they all had 70’s Training livery with team badging on nose or tail. I think the Poachers had light blue pinstripes , but not sure, If I find any old magazine shots I’ll get back to you..
