Cranswick your’e a star!
Fantastic Fluffy, “Stapme” will be chuffed, some nice pix of him in the cockpit would be a wonderful nostalgia trip. I look forward to seeing AB in a few weeks time, all the best and keep up the good work it really is something.
Thanks for correcting me Fluffy, you learn something new everyday!:)
Yes a 73Sqn. scheme would look superb on the Glad. It realy does need to be back in a 1930’s RAF scheme. Whilst the Malta scheme is nice it would be inaccurate as “Faith, Hope and Charity” were Sea Gladiators.
The Lincolnshire Lancaster Association looked at the costing and even sourced a manufacturer of a H2S blister for PA474 a few years ago now, but Fluffy is right that BAE will not sanction a newly fabricated blister but will sanction the fittment of an original. As BAE Systems still holds the design authority for the Lancaster this scuppers BBMF and LLA somewhat. Personally I think the Lanc looks far better without the blister spoiling her lines.
Thanks Mark12 I thought you wouldn’t let me down.
bringing the whole fleet, why have the bbmf got enough pilots?
Could Fluffy please tell us when is AB910 due in the paint shop as she is due a new lick of paint?
Well done Fluffy, she’s coming on a treat I can’t wait to see her at the Lincs Lancs bash in September, it looks like a trip to Coningsby before then.
Not a bad guess with the 74 Sqn. scheme, once again well done to you and Andy.
Oi! you down there, why have you got a pointy arm sticking out of your head?
At last someone is willing to restore me, mind you it’s a big job but I don’t mind you spending your money on me:dev2: 😉
I still think it’s going to be a 1945 WWII colour scheme. I think that Fluffy would like to do a rare scheme but he has to get BBMF/RAF approval which sometimes can stifle his and others ideas, thats my opinion why we won’t get a black scheme on this Spit. It would be nice though and you never know in the future.:(
Some of the trainees in “Fighter Pilot” did find careers in the RAF, Rhod Smart trained as a navigator and went onto No.100 Sqn. flying the Canberra,
Robbie Low also remustered as a navigator, Martin Oxborrow gained his wings and went multi engine, his first tour was with No.30 Sqn. flying the Hercules. The only one to pass out as a fast jet pilot and to end up operational was former milk man John McCrea who joined No.XV Sqn. at Laarbruch Germany flying the Buccaneer S.2b, he later served in the first Gulf War flying the Tornado GR.1.
The ones who failed or gave it up were, Trevor Lewis who went to university and Al Stewart who gained his wings, past TWU at Brawdy on the Hawk and went onto the Buccaneer OCU. with John McCrea then gave it all up!!! (silly boy) he left the RAF to become a wine merchant. What a waste of tax payers money!!
It would be good to know what they are doing now does anyone know?
Tom what colour scheme will AR213 be finished in or is this a guarded secret?:)
It looks nothing like me !!!!
