Nansen, that’s the new Danish one isn’t it? Nothing bad about it.

Nope, its the new Norwegian one (where’s Hamburger when you need him?)

THIS is the new Danish babe: flexible support ship (fleksible støtteskib) HDMS Absalon. She’s is at least as big as HMS Belfast. Her sister is HDMS Esbern Snare. In addition, there will be derivative 3 frigates which share many components.

Just a heads-up, the link is working again.

Apart from that, I found the following photo on that site which I find to be of great interest:

What ship exactly does this model represent? It’s not the Talwar, nor is it the new corvette (sorry, can’t spell the name 😉 ) and neither is it the Neustrashimyy (I CAN spell that though, go figure!). However it looks closer to the latter than any other ship. Is it a new variant of the design or a revised configuration for the second-of-class that has reportedly resumed construction?

I think it is an modernized export derivative of Neustrashimy, called Yastreb (?) . Main differences with Neustrashimy are new main gun, modified front superstructure with 8-cell instead of rbu6000 and 32 SA-N-9 lowered by 1 deck, new gun fire control radar, and 4×4 Uran AShM.

Thailand has her own little flattop already. Spain and Italy build their own. India has her ADS and if South Korea wants a carrier, it can build one based on her experience with LP-X Dokdo. Likewise Japan.

Brazil, Chile, Argentina seems the only viable candidates:

Brazil > helicopter platform to replace the scrapped Minas Gerais in her role as Helicopter Support Ship (transfer of Harriers as option, not requirement)

Argentina > replacement for 25° de Mayo (transfer of Harriers required for role as carrier)

Chilie > introductino of new capability, either as carrier (with Harriers) or helicopter support ship (ASW, Helicopter Assault)

What other potential candidates are there? Maybe Mexico? South Africa? Taiwan (if not too controversial)?

Not to mention four LCF operational with the Dutch navy and two F124 operational with German navy with the third about to be delivered.

I think this says it all: “A few years ago we were offered five Burkes from the US for the price of three (secondhand hulls- I think they were flight 0’s), we turned them down, now we’re going to buy three at full price.”

I had assumed it flew between 100 and 1000 feet, depending on the profile. 30 m is probably the minimum possible height. Is this correct?

Urban legend has it following Bagdad streets and making a neat turn at an intersection … sound like 15-30m is correct, any higher might not only make it visible on radar but will also expose it unduly to AAA and SAMs.

Im beginning to think that the current Australian politicians have some sort of fetish for the US. I suppose there is still a faint hope they will go for the F100.

    Gibbs and Cox.

Scoot: mate I just found out that the AWD has gone to Gibbs and Cox 🙁

    Why am I not surprised?

Just a thought: wouldn’t it have been smart if Australia had teamed up with South Korea or Japan for this requirement (AWD <> KDX3, Kongo 2)

Due to the fall in Force Levels and Inablity of our yard to churn out ships at the desired rate , The Navy will go for 3 more Talwar , The Chief has indicated that.

I think 3 more Talwar is a forgone conclusion.

Interesting! I would have thought more P17 would have been preferable. However, if yard capacity is insufficient, an understandable decision.

Found this on another forum. Has anybody heard anything about India exercising its option for a second batch of Talwar class ships? If yes, please provide sources.

Wanshan, at what height does the Tomahawk fly for most of it’s mission?

The Tomahawk cruise altitude is at or bove 30 meters, I believe, maybe even a little lower.

For comparison, Tomahawk during vertical launch.

This lists Unit Involvements That Are Commanded By RN Ships At Dunkirk, 1940 05 27 0000 British Evacuation Operation Dynamo Dunkerque.

The Shakespeare class ship HMS Wallace is not on the list. However, there are no fewer than three V & W Admiralty ships on this list.

These are HMS Vega, HMS Wolsey, and HMS Wolfhound. Vega was also known as L41/D52, Wolfhound as D56, Wolsey as L02/D98. So, from the pennant number, It think we got it nailed down: its Wolsey.

    Valentine (L69/D49), Valorous (L00/F53) , Vimiera (L29/D23), Vivien (L33), Vega (L41/D52), Vanity (I28/L38/D28), Verdun (L93/D93), Viceroy (L21/D91), Winchester (L55), Wryneck (D21), Westminster (L40/D45), Whitley (L23), Wolfhound (D56), Wolsey (L02/D98), and Woolston (L49).
