no one replied to the three domes on the Yaroslav Mudryy. Is it safe to assume that the three domes that we see are satellite dish (on the hanger) & two Kashtan command post?
Atop the hangar is the surveillance radar associated with the 2 Kashtan firing units (same as on Neusrashimy).
MR-352M Positiv-E (E/F band) 3D radar (“Cross Dome”)
47NM air search
27NM surface search
The other 2 are radars for SSM targeting
Monollit/Titanit (“Band Stand”)
Did it sound like a joke to you?
Neustrishimy class might be a good ASW frigate but she is a sailing turkey without land-based air-cover and would drain upon the resources of other ships in a crisis environment. The short ranged Klinok & Kashtan is not going to give a 2nd thought for any aircrafts. They can even fly overhead and drop dumb bombs out of coverage of the shrot-ranged missiles. I firmly believe the two ships has to be given a decent medium-range AD cover. Its not good to depend on land-based aviation.moreover, Black sea fleets area of operation is not just Black sea, it included the Black sea & the Mediterranean.
But, why do you think that changing over to Shtil is not worth & cost-effective?
Then I’m sure you also think Udaloys are (even more, relateive to their size) underarmed. Because they use Klinok + 2×2 Ak630 in most cases.
these costly French boats have already become useless as they are not fit to be used during the mansoons.
What exactly does that mean?
Do you understand what a mock-up is? 9M100 is still in the mock-up stage.
Do you understand I did not state anything about these being real items – as in functional missiles? (Having a bad day?)
http://ttvnol.com/quansu/1185082/page-42
what do you mean by around the deck for AK-630, where else other than the two edges?
At flight deck level, or just below (sponsons) : AK630’s
This is wishful thinking. This is AA missile, which is considered as prototype for 9M100.
Note the date of the flight international issue in which this appeared (1996!)
These are just technological hatches. There are 28 cells for 9M96/9M100(whenever that comes to life) and 16 cells for AShM.
9M100 is the second missile from the left, 9M96 the third.
Do they have the design? Wasn’t one of the problems with rebuilding Gorshkov that the Russians didn’t have the detailed design drawings, & couldn’t agree a price for them with the Ukrainians?
The ships were designed in Russia to begin with IIRC.
Designer: Nevskoye Planning and Design Bureau, St. Petersburg, Russia
Builder: Nikolayev South Shipyard a.k.a. Chernomorsky Shipbuilding Yard a.k.a. Black Sea Shipbuilding Yard a.k.a. Soviet Shipyard No. 444, Nikolayev, Ukraine

Besides,
Beginning in 2020 or soon after, two 60,000-plus-ton nuclear-powered carriers would follow, based on plans for the Soviet-designed but never built Project 1143.7 Ulyanovsk class.
That means at least someone has the plans.
In future, we may be able to snap a pic similar to the one below, on the left the new Chinese carrier and on the right the new Indian carrier, coming together for a port visit somewhere.
I didn’t knew starborad stern had such an entry. No signs of any missile installation on the edges, so no missile installation there? They could have installed Duet or Palma there.
Given where she is in fitting out, there may not be any defensive weapons installed just yet. But even if there are, considering what’s being installed on locally built corvettes and frigates, I’ld expect AK630 (around the deck) plus VL Barak (in the island structure). But (early?) artist impressions show her with several (2-3) Kashtan.

All of the in-service 1155s aside from Kulakov have a full compliment of Klinok at this point.
Good for FRSN! Like Kulakov, Neustrashimy is but a single ship.
Neustrashimy underarmed?! You’re joking. All it may need are some Uran’s amidship. Don’t think changing over to Shtil is worth the cots/effort. Particulalry since in the Black Sea, this ship will operated under cover of land-based avaiation.
The most underarmed would be Udaloy (I) which dont have their full complement of Klinok (and make do in part with glorified manpads instead).
Snake65 i could see lot of VLS cells on Gorshkov frigate , VLS cells even amid ship how many SAM and Anti-ship missiles does it carry ?
I’m not sure the items amidship are actually VLS’s. Given their location, I think they may be accesshatch-covers (access to GTu’s). Not sure if items left and right of 2×8 cells VLU immediately forward of bridge are also VLU (might be ASW missile).
Main missile loadout: 24x SAM cells (not precluding quadpacking), 16x SSM (or a mix of SSM, LAM, ASROC > i.e. Klub family)

Yes, I’d say the Pantsir designation is basically appropriate since most of the components that actually have a substantial bearing on its combat performance (radar, EO sensor, missiles) are taken directly from the land-based Pantsir-S1. To all intents and purposes it IS just a Pantsir with Gatling guns and target acquisition handled by external sensors (which, needless to say, are readily available aboard warships). I wouldn’t be surprised if the main reason for re-using the Kashtan turret was to take advantage of an established (and therefore backwards-compatible) ship interface. Think SeaRAM – not a completely new system but more like RAM than Phalanx in its capabilities even though the latter donated some components.
The EO-senor was already put forward for a radarless Kashtan-M version in 2005.
Yep, the SeaRAM comparison makes sense in this context.
Poster pic suggests a relaoding system but the mount is missing the typical Kashtan ‘wings’ used for autoreloading from a below deck magazine. How would this be accomplished in the new system (which I originally thought more oriented to manual reloading, with Sosna): where is the reloading mechanism?
I’ll bet you she can’t, not without serious help anyway, perhaps that is what the french used to sweeten the mistral deal.
If they can put together the Orlant/Kirov GCN, or a new 10k ton nuclear ship (posted elsewhere), why wouldn’t they be able to put together a CVN? The French adopted a modified submarine nuclear plant for CdG. I think Russia has some experience in that area too…
So, back to my original question: Modernized Kashtan, beefed up Palma or altogether new system?
