Any Ka-226 version with a winch attached for SAR missions ?
I used it a long time ago. 😀
Me too. 😀
JSR, I don’t know what you’ve been smoking, but it’s way too strong for you…
Lol. I put him on my ignore list a long time ago.
is it a necessary requirement to begin with for a light helo?
I wonder why Russia didn’t also offer the Ansat, its around the same size/weight category. its faster with more horsepower.. but admitedly its service ceiling sucks compared to Fennec and the Kamov..
Service ceiling is an extremely important factor for IAF as it operates helos at very high altitudes (+ 20,000ft).
yep, and having the capability to carry weapons is probably a good thing since these are meant to replace IAF chetak/chetah/chetals (= which have armed versions in service).
I thought the Ka-226 was really ugly when i first saw it, but its growing on me now. I like the multi config options it has.
Ka-226 comes with RR Allison engines……
…. or the more powerful Turbomeca Arrius…..
Can the Ka-226T be fitted with any sort of weapons? Light rocket pod, MMG etc ?
That might be a factor in the Indian Light helo competition.
I think they should just give up on the sub-surface fleet totally.
They cant even maintain the current 6 Collins class and have shortage in manpower for the submarine force.
The thrust of GE 414 IN56 isn’t specified anywhere. Although the GE statement says that its the highest thrust variant of 414 available, I have my doubts if its the EPE engine.
Its not the EPE version. Thrust of GE 414 IN56 is 98kN.
See the last line of official LCA site:
AFAIK, CMDS were integrated a while back on LCA.
Its somewhere in news reports.
Refit in this case means complete gutting and rebuilding. It’s original age is completely irrelevant.
No offense but the prediction of things breaking up in 5 years is based on….what?Plus, spare parts support for say MiG-29s in the 90s has little, if anything, to do with support for Vik today. Have there been issues with support for say the Talwars?
While I agree the spare parts situation is much better now for Mig-29s than in the 1990’s, there are still spare part issues in the fleet. Eg. the sukhois had an issue with shortage of landing gear tires, the Il-76s have a spare parts issue. In fact, the Il-76 problem is so severe that IAF was forced to issue a global tender for spare parts and maintenance contract.
5 years was a generic term, it could + or – 5 yrs but it will surely happen. You can only take a refit so far. There are going to be problems. The hull is over 30 yrs old now and has been rotting away.
[QUOTE=rayrubik;1854029]Why do you say so?[/QUOTE
Spare parts, maintenance, refits, reliability etc, are all going to be a major issue and pain. Just see look at the spare parts issues with the air force.
The spare parts support is pretty poor throughout the armed forces in relation to Russian equipment.
Gorky is also pretty old now and while you can say it is receiving a refit, you can only make an old dog run so far. 5 years down the line things will probably start breaking up.

^^ just my opinion.
Gorky is a disaster in the making. India should have jumped off that boat a long time ago.
Glossy brown glossy…
Beautiful.
BTW, how come the engines are painted here? The other Sukhois 27 and derivatives have unpainted engines.
Do you have any further info on that?
Maybe I am wrong, but AFAIK it was UK which approached IN / MOD to see if they were interested in those harriers.
The one at the front says 800l drop tank, while the one at the back is really hard to make out but possibly looks like 1200l drop tank written on it.
If those three are indeed 1200l DTs then thats quite a lot of fuel for a small fighter. 2400 kg internal fuel plus 3600l external fuel. In that config you could add two BVR, two WVR and a recon pod.
See Rii’s post. Remember, this is the MoD which rejected Sea Harrier FA2s on the grounds that they were offered without radars & BVR missiles, & this made them useless – while fitting their existing fleet of Harriers with new radars & BVR missiles. Doh! Left hand, meet right hand. It’d be very useful if you could get to know each other.
Don’t ever assume any logic in Indian military procurement. You might be right, but the odds are heavily against it.
The MOD never considered the Sea Harrier FA2s in any serious manner. The IN did not want them. Why will the MOD buy when the IN doesnt want them? The MOD makes many illogical decisions, but this was not one of them.
