That Kamov looks really fugly.
Hope they can sort out the winner and contract soon.
Twin,
You are on the money with some of your points. Certain NLCA driven revisions are to be actually adopted for the AF MK2 version as well, AFAIK. As I recall, these include the LEVCONS, extra fuel etc. I am not too sure about the intakes. SHar style intakes will come with a RCS penalty – also, if the designers can demo the slightly larger MK2 (~5%) intakes + some more fixes can manage the semi-ballistic trajectory without air starvation (ski-jump, high alpha, low speed) than the Navy might stick with them.
Just going back to your old post Teer. Air Force LCA Mk2 wont be having LEVCONS.

The N-LCA Mk2 with LEVCONS looks pretty nice.
Either Rafale or Typhoon would do the job, but if we could go back in time I wouldn’t buy either. What with Tejas, MRCA, FGFA & Su-30MKI, plus the Jaguars, Mirage 2000s & MiG-29s, & naval fighters, India has too many types & isn’t really reducing them.
You forgot Mig-21 and Mig-27. :p
There are no IAF planes or ground control stations with MIDS/Link 16, so no, MMRCA will not come with it. IAF uses its own custom data link.

Doesnt MKI already use Top Owl? That should be enough for it especially since its a two seater.
Hmmmm… or is it the Gzarkhov 45A HMS ?
Hi, i was just curious what percentage split of the defense budget was allocated to PLAN?
Even in it’s current form 2x ASRAAM, 4x AMRAAM, 4x Paveway II, 1x LDP, 2x external drop tanks is quite an impressive load to admire.
EE, do you have any pic showing this config?
Where does the LDP fit in that sort of combat load?
I would rather see revival of the Yak 44.

The assumption that i used wikipedia for the numbers is questionable to be polite. Check out the rand report and read the full thing…
Also assuming that the 2nd artilary will not be effective and thus sitting on laurels and not doing anything about it will be majorly stupid!
So then wouldn’t it be stupid to think that Indian ballistic missiles or Brahmos wont be sent on to PLAAF airbases?
Given the fact that the use of ballistic missiles by nuclear opponents is highly destabilizing its highly probable that such missiles would not be used.
Its more likely that cruise missiles would be used.
Actually, the ToT is a part of that agreement as well. GE will supply an initial batch of F414-INS6 engines and the rest will be manufactured at HAL under licence through ToT.
Thanks for clearing that up.
True story JBG. There is no Indian ICBM programme as India is being sensitive to US/Europe concerns.
India has only two possible nuclear threats, Pak & China. The 5,000 km Agni V will take care of the range requirements.
So you mean, have some sort of rotary launchers on transport sized AWAC aircraft and fire long range BVR AAMs at incoming fighters. Not a bad idea I can tell you that. Provided that every aircraft has 2-3 such launchers with 20 missiles each.
I think there was some proposal to equip B1’s with 20+ AIM-120.
Problem with any such proposal is that the adversary fighters will also be armed with BVR AAMs and with such huge platforms, you would be visible on radar far far away. Thus, there is no surprise element and if you get too close, you are also in danger.
Just my 2c.
FWIW:
Pentagon Awaits India’s Interest in Lockheed F-35 Fighter
http://www.businessweek.com/news/2011-11-01/pentagon-awaits-india-s-interest-in-lockheed-f-35-fighter.html
“Should India indicate interest in the JSF, the United States would be prepared to provide information on the JSF and its requirements,” including on security and infrastructure, the Defense Department said today in a congressionally mandated report on U.S.-India security cooperation.
Whoever that blog poster is, he is drinking some Indian nationalistic coolaid, that’s for sure.
I think he has been drinking something much worse than that. Lol.
Is there actually any tech transfer involved in that deal or is India just receiving the engines pre-built from America as Australia does?
Not too sure about it Rii, but AFAIK right now they are just a simple purchase of pre-built engines.
Do you think the J-15 has inferior avionics to the 1970s era Soviet kit, N001 radar, etc?
Certainly the WS-10 powerplant should be an improvement.
Lol. I seriously doubt that WS-10 is an “improvement”. 😀
From last I read it was 15hrs for MTBO …. pretty pathetic.
