i do not see your point about size and market. y20 will take over all il76 market and some c130.

The overall market for heavy lift aircraft outside the US sphere is very small. While Y20 might turn out to be a reasonably capable aircraft, its sales will be low.
Maybe Pakistan, North Korea, Egypt could purchase a few (single digits).

An old design like the F-1 only has limited upgrade potential. There is only so much you can do.

Well, there is nothing new in the JF17 plane design other than DSI. Perhaps you meant new airframe.

They can barely afford the dirt cheap JF-17s so getting J-10s is simply out of the question.

Best bet would be for Pakistan to milk some more F-16 blk 52 from the US.

Well, cant have a sea harrier thread without a pic of an IN harrier. 😛

Couldnt find any pics with a fully equipped IN harrier.

Does the IN harrier only have two wing hardpoints (on each wing)?

Indian navy should plan to operate the Mig 29K and N-LCS for the foreseeable future. How many fighter types do they want to induct? A different fighter mix for each carrier? The main advantage from the EMALS comes with the ability to acquire and use the E-2D…Even regular steam CAT’s are good enough for all of IN’s needs, if it can come with less restrictions and at a lower cost…

Yes, it would probably be ideal to have just one or two fighter types, but IN doesnt have unlimited funds for an ideal mix. If IAC-2 does indeed come with catapults (steam or otherwise), they would probably go for a more capable fighter to utilize that available CAT. They also want to operate E-2Ds from carriers.

No, Russia has already told India that a Mig-29K with strengthen Nose Gear would be available to operate from Catapult Equipped Carriers. If, India decided to produce one?

Huh? Never heard of that. Do you have any links for that Russian offer? Sounds highly implausible.

You would have to be pretty stupid to think they would operate Mig-29K with EMALs.

China will always be one step behind if they keep doing this. But yes, for now there are plenty of benefits.

Diplomacy is most effective when backed by military might.

The best defensive posture is to possess a military which potential adversaries recognize as tough and capable. Better to have and not need than to need and not have.

True, but if you noticed, a major reason for war has been boundary issues. Aus has no such problem.

And if Oz is like the US, there is not a tax/revenue problem, but an out of control public spending problem. Vote out Julia/Barack and their ilk to solve it.

Oz tax rates are much higher but the point is excessive public spending on defence is pointless when there is no threat. $30 billion for 12 diesel submarines…. lol. Just stupid.

They could buy 12 nuke subs from US for $12 billion. Even then they wont have the manpower to man it… so its a wtf… how stupid can u get moment.

deter India? Why would Australia need to deter India?

Thats because Australians think that over-populated India is a threat which may invade Australia to take its resources….

    [facepalm]

Its pretty sad that australia is planning to waste so much money on defense when it has no real threats. They would be better off getting more MPAs to prevent those illegal refugee boats from coming across. And use the savings to reduce the horrendous tax rates.

The Mig-29K will do fine???? Well, I am not sure it can handle the J-15 or current Flanker Types let alone the J-20 or J-31 in future PLAAF and PLAN Service. Like I said the Mig-29K will do fine in the next 10 years. Yet, after that it will be totally outclassed………

You dont seem to have said anything at all to back up your statements. Its just been your personal feelings.

Perhaps you should provide some facts n figures to back up what you say.

    Hate the new forum format.

Its so hard to read the main forum and distinguish between topics with new posts and already read topics. Contrast is terrible.
