I remember Bollywood film with Aamir Khan where they blame it on poor quality Russian parts sourced by corrupt official, like Russia has had anything to do with Indian MiG-21s for decades. :p

    Good film tho.

You must have seen more Indian movies than me :p

IAF crash rate is more an artifact of inadequate training than any airframe issue.

Wrong. IAF mig-21 crash rate was affected by USING mig-21s as trainers by rookie pilots.

Also, if you actually care to look into the matter, you will notice that IAF Mig-21 crash rate is in-line with aircraft from the same generation (actually lower than F-104 iirc).

Honeywell isn’t even working on that program anymore.

Huh? News reports mentioned that RFP is out (or going out soon – cant remember) for the engine replacement to Honeywell. Its a single vendor situation so it will take time.

Rafale replaces MiG-23 and MiG-27 as medium aircraft whereas Jaguar as a light aircraft is succeeded by Tejas and there are a lot of MiG-21s ahead in that queue.

Nope, Jaguar was purchased a DPSA (Deep Penetration Strike Aircraft). Tejas only replaces Mig-21.

AMCA / Pak-Fa will replace Jaguar.

By the time they did a complete DARIN III upgrade it probably cost less to build something like a Tejas. You basically are settling for something between the Gripen or M2K. If it needs more capability than that then they may as well buy F-16’s at that point.

You are forgetting the entire infrastructure IAF already has for Jaguar. Main problem of Jag – engines- will be rectified by the Honeywell engine upgrade program.

Don’t Indian AF Jaguars have the Agave radar fitted?

Only the IAF IM versions had that iirc.

The upcoming DARIN III upgrade will include El-2032 radar for all the ~120 Jags.

Engines will be upgraded as well –
    http://www.honeywellforjaguar.com/

    Enhanced mission capabilities:
23% shorter high – hot takeoffs
    17-40% higher thrust
    Greater mission range
Faster climbs to 20,000 feet without afterburner
    36% extended fuel range
Increased combat survivability – auto re-start after flame out

    Technical superiority with increased performance:
    Drop-fit replacement
555 pounds lighter than current aircraft configuration
4,400 pounds greater high – hot takeoff payload
    Decreased pilot workload, increased safety
Increased pilot safety – F124 – F125 has 500,000 hours without a loss of a single aircraft due to engine failure
Decreased pilot workload – Engine FADEC, EMS

Improved reliability and reduced life-cycle costs:
    Greater time between maintenance
2,000 hours minimum time between overhaul
    Lower cost maintenance
    Reduced fuel consumption
Rupees 7,000 Crores (US$1.5 billion) in reduced life-cycle costs

Funny, 10-20 years ago. Few would say the UK would ever get two 65,000 ton Super Carriers. Yet, both are in production……….

I wouldnt really call a 65k ton carrier a Super Carrier.

Even more so since its in STOVL config 😛

Could Japan support such a Large Warship?

Its a richer country than UK and have a large enough population pool. I dont see why not.

Lol… let me have a go at that too Madrat.

Su-35 is a true Gripen killer. It is designed to destroy all Gripen versions of past, present and future. :diablo:

Gripen fanboys can claim low RCS as much as possible, but in the end its not a stealth platform and will be picked up by IRBIS / BARS a looooong way away.

The only advantage Gripen has compared to other Eurocanards is cost. Its inferior in every other manner.
