The fuse left at Woodford would be pretty typical of 146 design also as the structural changes were minimal.
My passion for this particular subject is the fact I worked on the production line to the very end. Indeed, I worked on set number 400 albeit a half assembled nose section.
Bruce, if you want contact details I can PM you in the right direction.

I’ve started other threads on the topic of 748/atp preservation.

For those interested in RJX ‘bits’ there is a fuse off the production line left at woodford. No tail or wings, not fitted out inside.
Thanks very much for clearing up about the Manchester example.

Not sure about West Africa Dave, but I remember a few years back quite a large haul was recovered from Ethiopia in East Africa. I think it involved some Fireflies and Saabs of some kind?
I can’t help but think that it wouldn’t be the easiest place to recover aircraft from though.
Libya might be a fruitful area though, as shown by the Liberator that is in limbo over there at the mo.

As 391 was scrapped this leaves IRJX as the last of the line though.ORJX is at Woodford in use as a training aid. The first in the line is G-LUXE which is now the ARA aircraft, itself a prime candidate for preservation albeit in a good few years time.
I believe we are in a position these days to preserve aircraft with foresight rather than than the days when eveything was scrapped and years later we mourn the loss of extinct types.
And speaking of Avro, I see the Andover at Cosford is being stripped for spares (not the display one, the one on the far side). And before anyone says, I know it was dubbed ‘Hawker Siddeley’ but it was directly descended from the 748! 🙂
The DERA T.2 looks in remarkable condition. That is a museum piece waiting to happen. Does anyone know if the Uruguay Navy examples are still operating?

Afternoon,
Cheers for the info. It’s sad to see. I’m a bit surprised that more haven’t escaped to other museums.

Afternoon.
Am I right in thinking there’s a substantially complete AEW3 at RAF Stafford?

Will this be a CT-133? Haven’t they recently retired the last examples?

I echo your sentiments there Rlangham. I wish that i could have had the experience of looking up to see a Victor refueling two Electric Lightnings, or a Gloster Javelin breaking from the pack to go it alone somewhere. But i have to say, recently the sight i’m missing the most is the sight of a Concorde majestically coming into land- looking so much like an swan coming to land on a shimmering river. Yet another one bites the dust, before being covered in it from here to eternity because of stupid, spiteful people who cant sence the greatness of being the only country IN THE WORLD with a supersonic airliner. That was our chance to be different; to be revolutionary. But no.

If you’re referring to the pictures, there isn’t a Javelin there. Just being picky! Still got my goat up about a pic in a monthly high profile mag labelling a 777 as an A330!
If you’re inferring you’d like to see a Jave irrespective of the pics, form a queue behind me for that one! 🙂

Buccsociety,
Any idea when your website will be up and running again?

Mornin’,
Whats the current situation with the sea vixen at brunty? The last I heard it had been dry run last year sometime. Am I correct?
J man
Thanks buccsociety,
In was going to ask a question about it today. Saw it on massive engines last night on discovery. Aren’t the engines going to a speedboat record attempt?

Guys,
The avro heritage centre look after it still. I spoke with one of the guys last week and he said they can dry run it, but health and safety has put a stop to them doing ‘full on’ runs. They are restricted with the use of staging /scaffolding as well!!
I never got any information about the meeting, but i think it involved ideas to move 603 from woodford. I may be wrong.
The avro heritage centre is open every tuesday afternoon (IIRC) when the guys open the centre and do tours of the vulcan and other rarities. Security clearance is required, so if you want to go give plenty of notice.

I’ve got a S5500. Great for static/taxi-ing pics. I use it at 4MP all the time. It’s tricky to get the action shots at first. The worst point for me though (coming from an SLR) is the rocker zoom. You can’t adjust instantly and recompose. If I was buying now i’d save and get a DSLR.
Hope it helps,

Am I right in thinking it’s a Ryan Firebee target drone?
