No idea what this is … anyone?
looks like sonar operators console.

flightline of IAF and FrAF mirages in kalaikunda afb. exercise Garuda-III.

also taking part M2K-5, Otan E3, IL78, Su30Mki, Mig27 and Jaguar.
what does Australia really plan to buy replacing the hornet fleet ? JSF usaf version ? if they want a island hopping campaign in pacific why not the JSF naval capanle of stol ops ?
COTS gigabit ethernet technology gives bi-directional 1000 Mbps. but a layer of redundancy and reliability is needed in these systems over the raw unreliable bus..ethernet only has CRC check to drop corrupted frames thats all. the mil-std buses I think have more intelligence and permit status querying of devices etc.
Sengupta is our Dale Brown…soon you will see Su30mki powered by plasma engines and Mach15 hypersonic brahmos prowling off the US west coast
surrender while there is still time :diablo:
Don’t you just love it when a reporter writes about something about
which he or she clearly knows absolutely nothing?
ignorance, malice or lack of wisdom has never been a restriction for entry into
indian defence journalism.

NEW DELHI: In one of the largest maritime exercises in recent times, India’s western and eastern naval fleets have amassed their warships, submarines, aircraft and helicopters on the western seaboard to conduct intensive combat manoeuvres in the entire Arabian Sea.
Given the sheer size of this “theatre readiness operational exercise”or “Tropex”and its proximity to the Pakistani waters, New Delhi has given “advance notice”to Islamabad under a long-standing bilateral agreement.
The agreement, inked in April 1991, is a safeguard to prevent “any crisis situation”from developing due to “misreading”of the each other’s “intentions”during the conduct of large wargames.
Sources said Navy Chief Admiral Sureesh Mehta and Army Chief General J J Singh will be witnessing the “work up”of the two fleets on Friday, which will be followed by the “tactical phase”of the exercise later this month.
“Over 50 frontline warships, including aircraft carrier ‘INS Viraat’, Delhi-class destroyers, Talwar-class stealth frigates and Kilo-class submarines, will be part of Tropex,”said a source.
“Tropex will also include elements from the Army, IAF and Coast Guard. From the IAF, for instance, maritime strike Jaguar fighters will take part in the manoeuvres,”he added.
Apart from its sheer scale, the exercise is significant since one of its objectives will be to practice the operational concept of “maritime manoeuvre from the sea”.
The concept is basically designed to ensure that in the short, swift and intense conflicts of the future, the Navy is able to favourably influence the outcome of the land-air battle
MOD press release:
INDO-FRENCH JOINT AIR EXERCISE GARUDA-III BEGINS
15:39 IST
A bilateral exercise called Garuda III between the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the French Air Force (FAF) is being held at Kalaikunda air base from 12 Feb to 23 Feb 07. Kalaikunda air base located close to Kharagpur is one of the major air bases in the Eastern Air Command of the Indian Air Force. This is the third such exercise between the two countries and the first involving French AWAIRCRAFTS being staged in India. The IAF had also participated in a similar exercise held at Istres air base, France in Jul 2005.
During Garuda III, the IAF is being represented by its major fleets namely the Su-30 MKI, Mirage-2000 and the MIG-27 aircraft. The FAF would field the Mirage 2000-5, the M-2000 D and the E-3F AWAIRCRAFTS aircraft. The two weeks of the air exercises designed to refine pilot and team skills of both countries would see the IAF and FAF engaged in mock air battles in a simulated battlefield environment of the future.
This exercise, while allowing pilots of the IAF an opportunity to refine their aerial fighting skills would signal the growing commitment of the Indian armed forces to constructively engage the international community in confidence building.

seems to me both UK and France need new cash rich partners to keep their mil-industrial design complexes humming 😀
if you are talking 60KT+ CTOL ships, only two other countries have ambitions on that level :diablo: (ok three countries but the japanese arent ‘allowed’ to admit it openly)
well India is already using green pine-mki, perhaps elements of citron tree concepts and soon thales master-xxx mki . the missile itself isnt the biggest challenge in BM, its the detection and guidance on ground.
they used a cold gas x-thruster to manouver the kill vehicle , raytheon has a sexy new rocket motor x-thruster that dances like a bee/hummingbird but not sure if arrow2 has it.
whats the hurry ?
improvements to avionics etc is a non-issue now for india, it plays into a sweet spot in the indian IT industry – embedded sw. quite a few private players will be happy to hack together anything thats needed for defence usage. some of these have been funded by govt and run by ex-drdo/Hal types. a relatively old
radar like PESA like Bars doesnt need the amt of processing LRUs a APG77 set
needs or the cleansheet integrated avionics on JSF..remember MKI avionics had
to be upgraded piecemeal coz we didnt get to design it from scratch. the LCA
avionics can also be improved – the amt of time needed to write and qualify
avionics sw being huge, they better get it into service before running off on
that errand.
what I want to see is a canoe style powerful standoff offensive jamming
and EW pod on the MKI and Mirage2000/Jag based on latest technology. one
or two a/c in a strike package can perform role of the old Bear-J 😎
fleetwide datalink fitments for which $1b is earmarked will also permit platforms having high computing power (phalcon/emb145) to distribute the
intel to fighters passively listening on the network. this will be far more a
force multiplier than say a Bars->Irbis upgrade.
I wuz under impression most A/C today use 486 level computers albeit using many of them in multicomputer architectures for specific tasks.
stealth spy, the meteor seeker seems a MBDA venture using tech from Mica and Aster. MBDA is part of EADS ? Thales is also somewhere in picture one expects.
Good, will be better than Agats > decade old R77 seeker (a clone also seen in SD-10)
