    Hi everybody,

In my opinion, the Su-35 isn’t the best fighter which is being offered to Brazil. The Gripen is!!
Ok, some may say that it is too short-legged to operate in such a large country as Brazil, but I’d like to make a few comments about this:

Most of the airfields in the Amazon jungle aren’t anything more than a few hundreds meters of mud. The Su-35 couldnt be used in these airfields once it is simply too heavy and could end stuck in the mud. Operating from air bases located too far away from the ToA it would spend a lot of time and lots of fuel making its way to the place where it could be required. This way it also would have a higher time of reaction. The Su-35 also would have a lot problems operating off its home once it doesn’t an APU. Another point against the Sukhoi is that it is a lot expensive to operate and for an Air Force without much money that’s make a big difference.

I’ve also read something similar to that in the internet, but that’s hardly true, specially now that the US government has announced the end of the military aid program with Brazil. And by the way, the F-16 version which is being offered is the Block 50/52+, not the F-16E (whatever this is).

Now this is the real Lockheed Martin’s proposal to Brazilian Air Force.

The Government of Brazil (GOB) has requested a possible sale of 12 F-16C/D Block 50+ aircraft with either the F100-PW-229 or F110-GE-129 engine and :

    — APG-68(V)9 FMS radars,
    — two spare F100-PW-229 or two spare F110-GE-129 engines,
    — 14 LANTIRN Targeting Pods (FMS variant),
    — 14 LANTIRN Navigation Pods with Terrain Following Radar (TFR),
    — 48 AIM-120C Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) and four AMRAAM training missiles,
    — 12 M61 Vulcan cannon,
    — 48 LAU-129 launchers,
    — eight AN/ALQ-131Countermeasures,
    — LANTIRN Night Vision Goggle compatible cockpits, the capability to employ a wide variety of munitions, support equipment, software development/integration, modification kits, spares and repair parts, flight test instrumentation, publications and technical documentation, personnel training and training equipment, U.S. Government and contractor technical and logistics personnel services, and other related requirements to ensure full program supportability.

The estimated cost is $909 million.
The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not affect the basic military balance in the region. The prime contractor will be Lockheed Martin Tactical Aircraft Systems of Fort Worth, Texas. One or more proposed offset agreements may be related to this proposed sale.

Implementation of this proposed sale will require the assignment of approximately five U.S. Government representatives to Brazil for approximately two years to assist in the delivery, acceptance, and deployment of the aircraft. There will be five U.S. Government and three contractor representatives for one-week intervals, twice annually, to participate in program management and technical reviews.

There will be no adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness as a result of this proposed sale. This notice of a potential sale is required by law; it does not mean that the sale has been concluded.

oh cr*p.. you guys dont know how funny your phrases become in portuguese (of course, thanks to lack of accuracy in the altavista translator).

I’ll translate that Flood’s phrase about a goat and artillery to let you know how it really sounds in Portuguese:

My goat from friends is a sick, it ate a part of the artillery but is suffering from constipação*. We’d like to have a big duck gratinado* with source from caril. Please.

    * = We dont the words “constipation” and “smothered” in Portuguese.

    ageorge,

We dont buy rockets here in Brazil. We build them! 😉 These rocket packs you mentioned are too bloody expensive down here.
That accident that I mentioned, had happened in 1999 when I was member of Rocketry Group which was even premiated in a rocketry festival in France.
I am currently working in a new rocket project (this time working with some friends) in which I will try to install a camera to take some air photos, but there is a long way to go ’til there.

Well, we have different problems in each one of the 2 recovery systems:
In the 1st one, the stuff (sorry but cant remember the word) which ejected the parachute got stuck inside the fuselage, so the 1st just turned down and penetrated some 50 cms inside the ground (I have a pic showing this and it is very cool.. I’ll try to scan it later).
In the 2nd stage recovery system, the accelerometer which should activate the parachute ejection apparently had a unkown failure and ejected the parachute when the rocket was at maximum speed. The iron hook which connected the parachute with the fuselage blew up . So the fuselage did a fast descending while performing some weird manouvers.
Only the nosecone did a safe landing.

did you manage to find any bits of it ??

Yep.. As I’ve already said I have some pictures showing the 1st stage stuck in the ground… The 2nd stage was found partially destroyed and the nosecone was found intact some 1500 mts away from the place where the rocket was launched

what size was it ?? sounds interesting .

    Approximately 1,6 meters
