From an aero dynamics and rcs POV I think Tejas is quite comparable to most MRCA aircraft. What its final engines will be like we do not know yet, that would (i think) make or break the bird.

As far as missiles and radar are concerned, they do make a huge difference in making one aircraft superior to the other, but they can be developed continuously even after aircraft becomes operational and/or bought from other vendors.

So its difficult to compare LCA with MRCA aircraft except to say LCA has a very capable airframe which can provide a great platform for a modern day fighter.

I’m optimistic about the missiles, MMR could turn out to be world class, indian has good experience in radars.

So it all comes down to the engine. Then we would have a top line light fighter that we can make in any numbers as we please and also continue to modernize.

May be this MRCA circus is simply IAF putting together a best of breed GSQR for MCA ? 🙂 Won’t we have a few mad vendors !!

I have always wondered why no navy has shot at and killed a few pirates in intl waters instead of trying to take them prisoners and then releasing somewhere. They will just come right back.

A couple of pirate boats being sunk without option to surrender will give them something to think about.

If its about humanity, does that mean repeated kidnapping is to go unpunished ?

Heck, what about china ? i would think at least they would have the balls to do that, if not the ‘democratic’ countries.

Rahul, I think mods here have not had to face the chinese mass attacks as dedicated indian forums. It can be confusing and quite taxing. I think we should offer constructive suggestions and perhaps also develop strategies that thwart the aim of those who always try to derail indian threads.

Why must it take the T-50, 15 years to enter service?

    Thanks

I meant for it (FGFA) to enter indian service, for indians to get all its capabilities integrated into our fighting strategy and eventually reach a point where we consider its capabilities relatively open knowledge enough to take it to Red Flag.

Assuming india and russia concludes an agreement first.

FWIW, I think you are being too easy for sometime in letting a thread deteriorate and then suddenly too harsh on everyone including the serious posters. While Arthur’s frustration is understandable it could have been expressed better. The battle lines on internet forums are usually drawn with mods + serious posters on one side and trolls on the other – not based on geography.

Threads on Indian defense will be attacked by pakistani and chinese posters. Nothing can be done to stop that by other posters. Some Indians will retaliate unwisely in IAF or pakistani and chinese threads to disrupt them in return.

Not supporting the ‘hot heads’ but imagine a forum where both UK and Argentine nationalists post during the Falklands War. Or Israel and palestine if palestinians had an airforce. Would they have been able to ‘Build Bridges’ ? India and china/pakistan has been at war, hot or cold, for 50+ years. Its human nature that some posters from these countries will lose their cool, just like citizens of any country in similar situation. Its not some short coming of people on this part of the world.

Either you can just ban all discussion on air forces of India, china and pak, which would make this forum rather dull, or figure out a moderation method that can sort the trolls from serious posters.

The moderation tactic used by Bharat-Rakshak (for eg) is to do aggressive banning of users and IP addresses of posters who deliberately indulge in flame baiting. I feel they over react sometimes and serious posters also get caught up. They have lost some good people who were valuable sources like that. But the overall signal to noise ratio is very high and it keeps the forum usable.

I would suggest a 1 week or 1 month ban on any user/IP address who you, in your own judicious judgement, feel is posting deliberate flame bait. In making this decision it would help if you can differentiate between the one who starts mischief and those who respond.

I’m sure this will cause chinese or pakistanis who cause mischief in Indian threads as well as Indians who retaliate in china/pak threads to get banned. A few such bans might sort this out while keeping intact the posts of those who want a serious discussion.

Hope you will give my suggestion some thought.

A military takeover of Taiwan by China will set the cat among the pigeons. China will find a lot of other countries dropping all their mutual issues and forming a clear anti-china block. This cold war will be China v/s the world.

However, will taiwan drift into becoming a protectorship of china ? possible if china softens a bit and taiwan tires a bit. A more independent version of Hongkong may be.

Another 15 years for that possibly. The world would be a very different place by then.

There is a lot of cleaning up in your collective act to be done, the good ones notwithstanding.

Individual punishments and post-removals appearantly don’t work. Perhaps the threat of having your work removed does.

Arthur, this is beginning to sound like a white man teaching us uncivilized sub-continentals to behave. It would have been better for you to understand that due to the india-pak situation there are many hot heads and also many decent posters.

The decent posters have no way of controlling the hot heads. As a moderator you hold all the cards.

If you try to punish ‘all of you people’ it will just cause the serious ones to migrate or stop posting while the hot heads will stick around.

Its ‘your’ forum and you make the rules, but please do think about a way to selectively sort out the miscreants.

Can you please comment on my question about banning members from specific threads, may be based on them being reported using the ! button. Can you do that ?

    regards.

    Exactly, it would just irritate!

Only thing you could realistically do is provide a umbrella of protection for your troops from 150/200 kms away and provide fire support. Very expensive artillary and mis use of such an expensive system.

If indian and china gets into a fight, there will be a frontline ?? The armies have to get closer than 300 KM (or am I missing something big ??). There will be tank and artillery formations, forward ammo depos and so on which can be mapped by satellite (can it ??) and brahmos used as really long range (more than 30 kms for bofors, 100 kms for MBRLs etc) artillery.

I’m calling it artillery only to put it in the sense that there could be (fantasy) very large numbers of expendable brahmos missiles which can be used to attack relatively low value targets otherwise not counted as a brahmos target, but outside artillery or MBRL range.

Can brahmos carry some sort of air burst munitions for area denial and attacking tank and infantry formations ? Its speed, accuracy and maneuverability would make is a great platform to carry different types of warheads not designed for conventional CM use ??

Does this make any sense at all ? Apologies if this is something stupid, just laymans fantasies..

How many Chinese and Pak threads have been shut down due to flame wars ? Is there a deliberate ploy by certain posters to attack indian threads ? How does one handle it ?

We are going to regret buying too many critical defense items from US, right when China moves in on AP.
