Hi to all
two short questions.
Can the FRS-51 use the Phyton V missile, with the LUSh upgrade?
I read that they didn´t have any cockipt modification so Can they use the DASH Helmet asociated to the Phyton V, or they another modification?
Thanks
No, one has retired to a museum in southern England and one to a museum where it will be maintained to run and fast taxy in central England, the others may be scrapped as were the rest of the fleet. One was going to another museum but could not get into Cosford because of the short runway, it went to the other central museum and the one they were originally getting that is there may be scrapped, that was the third one.
There are two still flying and they will retire in about two weeks, they too will probably be scrapped, one was in the Falklands if you want to buy it, as it was supposed to fly home for scrapping. The simulators powered down for the last time this week. They are and were the most beautiful aircraft ever built and I loved every minute on them.

A personal question.
For your last paragraph, I presume that you was a pilot of VC10. In civil or military service?
Thanks again

Thanks for your ansewer
Hi
I must say that the VC10 is most beautifull plane that I ever saw.
I read in the VC10 net, that at 8/28/13, the RAF have 2 active VC10.
On the same page, they say that three were withdrawn from service this year, but were no scrap.
My question is, when they finally are removed from service, could be in service in another air force, as well wishing
Thanks
Why F/A-18D – it’s been out of production for years.
Wouldn’t an F/A-18E/F be a better option?
Frankly if my country was surrounded by loopies that want a peace of my action so I actually have a defence budget worth mentioning. And if my country’s the size of Malaysia or Venezuela.
76 F-35A in 3 squadrons of 16 a/c plus OCU/fighter squadon + 12 spare – hope Scooter’s reading this.
4 AWACS based on EMB-145
6-12 X P-3C BMUP(6 for Venezuela, 12 for Malaysia type with more waterways)
2 x EP-3C ELINT/SIGINTTankers – don’t need them as it’s a pretty small place and I’m looking at deterrence.
12 x C-130J-30
VIP transports – El Presidente flys in chartered national airline aircraft.12 x G-115 for primary training
24 x PC-21 for basic/advanced training
16 x T-50 for LIFTARMY AVIATION
8-12 MH-60S (SAR configured)
24 x UH-60M (transport configured)
6 x UH-60M (Special Operations Configured)12 x CH-47F
24 x AH-64E.
As for Naval Air Arm – assuming a force of 6-8 frigates:
12 x MH-60R (ASW, ASuW).
4 x MH-60S (VERTREP)

You have reason.
I must replace the F/A-18D by F/A-18F

Hi to all
I was reading the thread, and I must said that I have two questions
I know that, at this momento doesn`t existe a CATOBAR version of the MIg-29K, but if exist, this could operate from Sao Paolo carrier?
The lifts and cats, can handle it.?
thank you
Great Photos!!!
I´m searching photos of Buccaneer on us carrier in cross-deck exercises.
but, is very dificult.
Any one can help me o give m and idea where I can find it?
Thanks.

F-4s or A-4s? Sao Paolo would struggle to operate Phantoms, though it isn’t impossible. She has BS-5 catapults, the same as Ark Royal and Eagle had in the bow position. These could launch Phantoms with a useful load, but in low wind conditions they had to use the longer stroke waist cat. Also the JBDs on Sao Paolo would have to be upgraded, even non-spey engined Phantoms launch in full afterburner so water cooled JBDs and deck plates are required. Those nations which purchased F-4s tended to use them heavily, so any remaining examples will be high hours examples. Land based variants would be relatively easy to convert for shipborad ops though, as the basic airframe is the same. Fitting catapult spools is straightforward, as the hardpoints on the airframe are there in all examples. Tyres/wheels can be changed over to more suitable ones, though for the short cats it may be necessary to replace the standard nose gear leg with the F-4Ks extra extensible leg (approx 40inches longer). These could be manufactured new relatively cheaply. The whole F-4 question would depend on whether the aircraft were used for AD or AG. The former means relatively light loads so is feasible, whilst the latter would mean heavy bomb loads so it’s really pushing the limits of the cats.
As to the A-4 question, Brazil already purchased the best available airframes (ie lowest hours/ longest remaining life). Any other available purchases will be a matter of diminishing returns, though that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth pursuing. Also the number of turbo tracker AEW conversions announced seems a bit small, three is the minimum number needed aboard ship to provide round the clock cover (four would be better) which leaves none for training and no attrition reserves. One would hope this order is just an initial purchase with more to follow, for a total of at least six to eight airframes (three frontline, two for training and one spare, minimum).
Hi
Obi Wan, always I learn something.
I don`t know that the Sao Pablo has BS-5 catapult, the same that the HMS ARK ROYAL and EAGLE.
Let me make some questions:
Can sao Paolu launch a F-4 with this configuration:4 Aim-7 or equivalent /4Aim-9 and 2tanks (Air defense); (Antiship) 2 tanks and 2 antiship missile?
Can landing normaly, becase the Sao Pablo is more small than the HMS ARK ROYAL?
Can the F-4 use the lifts . My opinion is that can only use the lift on the starbor side?
Thanks for all
Hi to all
I,m from Argentina
Reading the previous post, i have some cuestion
How many chopper have the British in Iraq to support her troops (number and Type)?
I saw pictures of the FGW, where they use Puma HC1 and Sea King HC4 there.
So, Can you transfer to Afghanistan choppper that you use en Iraq, and send to Iraq the Pumas? for example. But you will need to keep some Chinook in Iraq.
What is the problem to deploy the Puma in Afghanistan? Engine problems or what?
I agree with those who say that you (british) have many types.
For hevy chopper, of course you will need the Chinook
For medium, i`m not sure (merlin or other); For atack: AH-64D; and for recon: Lynx
Indian Jaguar
Hy to everyone
I read thar HAL built under license the Jaguar IM/IS/IB
I have two question:
1) Can JAGUAR IM use a LGB (using a laser designator pod) or a GPS bomb?
This may more hipotetic
2) Cal HAL buil a carier versionj of the JAGUAR IM, like a JAGUAR M from the 1970/80?
Thanks

Nice list! Though I’d wonder about having both KC135s and A-330s for the tanker role. Perhaps a better bet would either be to go for A-400Ms in the tanker role, or a batch of A-310 MRTTs, which should be (relatively) affordable.
I’d probably aim to get it down to single types, e.g.
Air Force:
8 A-400Ms (as both tankers and transports, supporting FAA and Navy)
8 C-295s (cheaper transports, possibly replacing Casa 212s as well)
36 F/A-18F (or anything of the type, even new build or used Mirage 2000s)Navy:
8 C-295 MPAs (cheaper to operate than the P-3s, and good enough)
12 F/A-18Fs (again, anything similar, such as Mirage 2000s)
12 Super Puma ASW helosArmy
24 Super Puma transports
24 A-109 Anti-tank helos (cheaper than dedicated gunships)All in all, thats a good number of aircraft (somewhat optimistic, hence the suggestion of used Mirage 2000s as a cheaper option), but only five actual types in total. By focussing on single types, maintenance becomes a little more manageable. I would also look seriously at the AT-63 Pampa, equipped with a radar, as an A-4 replacement. It may not be as good, but it should be cheap, and would provide a useful secondary capability, to complement the proper fighters.
Hi Edlaw
I prefer that the Air force and Naval Aviation have their own tankers/transport; but you have reason about the KC-135, so I change the KC-135 of the Naval by 1 A-310 MRTT.
HI i am from argentine, so i WILL try to be realistic
