James, Richard,
Thanks for the info, it all helps in some way!

Dear all,
I wonder with your Browning knowledge if I could draw your attention to my thread here?
Hoping that if the gun can be identified I may find out where it was issued to, which may help lead to a lost Hampden.
Many thanks
FF
Bumped again!
Afternoon gents,
BE 387 appears in 3 places, the side plates and breech block. Just to confirm, the stamp that you’ve reversed (Pic 2) actually does appear reversed in reality, it wasn’t an issue with the photo.
Thanks for your attention.

Any more info on the wreck and it’s current condition?
Cees
Morning Cees,
The aircraft is more than 20nm E of the Lincolnshire coast, at a depth of around 20m. It looks to have come down intact, probably a controlled ditching, as for example the distance between the engines is correct and they are pretty much exactly aligned. However 75 years of immersion, currents and trawling have taken their toll as you can imagine. We think much of the aircraft has settled into the silt.
There is evidence of a VGO machine gun in the area of the rear cupola, and as it is single fit rather than twin we suspect the aircraft is an early loss as a modification programme late 39-early 40 gave the Hampden twin VGOs in that area.
Thanks for your interest

If it was easy it wouldn’t be any fun Richard!
Thanks for the info.

Thank you Smirky.
Harry Moyle’s Hampden File shows AT225 in CC white on P109.
Profiles on P188 show AT147 of 489 Sqn wearing CC strike colours of Dark Sea Grey and Sky.
Hope this is of use.
Very many thanks G, that’s a big help.
Not quite right mate, 601 wasn’t an Eagle squadron. Those were 71, 121 and 133 Sqns. 601 was an Aux AF sqn, “County of London”. Think it had a US pilot, Billy Fiske?

Beaten to it by DCW!
Probably the best place to ask is here, loads of very well-informed people:-

Very well said T Aux, fully agree. Outstanding work from Andy and Co.
There’s a pub in a village near Binbrook (Tealby?) where Lightning jockey’s who’d ejected nailed their boots to the ceiling, IIRC?
Also one of the HAS sites at Coningsby has paw prints leading from the aircrew building, across the car park, up to and over a nearby HAS.

Great post. Superb pics there.
