Isn’t the whole point of volunteering that you give your effort because you enjoy doing so? No strings attached.

That’s how it works for plenty of the people I volunteer alongside.

The thefts are deplorable, however, the incident at Woodhall Spa was flour and eggs if I remember the report correctly.

These thefts can’t just be for the scrap value, surely (like the theft of the parts from the Humbrol Hunter) this is some low-life “collector”

There’s a photo of Twilight Tear at Fighter Rebuilders in this thread on Wix

Also keep your eye on provence fighter sales at the same time.
    JJ.

“Provence Fighter Sales”? A new operation in Southern France? It really serves no purpose to witter on about whether/when Twilight Tear will be sold. Irrespective of how attached any of us are to this lovely aeroplane it’s entirely up to her owner.

I’ve had a bit of a musical week-end.Got myself a VIP Golden Circle ticket for Prince’s opening night at the Greenwich Dome (oops, sorry,The O2),so started off by slapping Prince-The Hits Collection DVD into the player. Then it was on to…..

    The Blues Brothers 1980.
As Tony Hancock used to say “Stone me !” Was it really made that long ago???
If you haven’t seen this classic, the story is simple.Jake, fresh out of prison, and his brother Elwood, decide to re-form their old band and raise funds to save their old orphanage from closure. They drive a magical car, destroy more public property than Godzilla and end up being hunted by the Army—all to save a grumpy old Nun and her needy orphans.
IMHO this is THE best musical comedy ever made.It boasts a roster of talent that must be heard to be believed – Cab Calloway,James Brown,Aretha Franklin,Ray Charles and John Lee Hooker, all legends of the music industry. This would definatley be one of my “Desert Island Discs”.

    Ray.
Jamie Fox achieves what few performers have in the tricky world of portraying genuine icons,to seemingly fuse with the spirit of the subject.
    This is a cracking bio-pic and the sound-track’s not bad either:D .

Funnily enough, “All Barry’s own work” bears some very strong similarities to this review http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=17154

Barry, you naughty little plagiarist, passing off other people’s reviews as your own.

    Philadelphia (1993)
This film caused a bit of a ruckas when released back in 1993 and succeeded in taking a deep look at a new kind of discrimination that grew as AIDS became more prevalent in the minds of Joe Public and how some peoples hatred, not dislike, but downright hatred towards gays got even more fueled as the new disease became a harsh and frightening reality in the world.
Tom Hanks, one of my favorite actors is superb. His casting as a neutral figure, with none of the flamboyant and stereotypical homosexual characters that occur in,say The Birdcage, shows a careful concern for political correctness, and, the way he is around his lover is remarkably chaste. It gives Hanks room to develope his character, and his decent, sympathetic performance won him the first of two consecutive Best Actor Oscars.
Denzil Washington more than earns his pay-cheque,portraying a fiercely hetrosexual lawyer who makes a point of standing up for the oppressed. He is essentially homophobic but he is also against persecution.
The scene where Hanks opens up his homosexual world to Washington by playing a favorite aria is particularly clever.Arguably, the horror of death from AIDS has been sanitized for popular consumption, but, nevertheless it is a brave and commendable effort.
The pacing and structure of the film are designed by director Jonathan Demme to treat the viewer as the jury.As a viewer, you are asked to think about how you feel not just about AIDS,but how you feel about gay people. The arguments are taut and compelling.

Aren’t you going to credit George Perry, whose review on the BBC website you’ve just ripped off as your own work?

I’ve decided to resurrect my Minolta Dynax 500si & Sigma 100-300mm lens. Ordered a new rechargeable battery & charger for it (it uses 2CR5Ms).

I’ll get some 35mm film, which I’ll get processed to CD, rather than printed, to see how it comes out.

Is there any preference with regards film/iso that I should try that works well when processed like this, and for this type of photograph? A good processing company? Can I specify RAW or will I only get jpegs?

Rob, when doing this kind of conversion always specify the Canon RAW format because the colour comes out so much better.

Joking aside (because it’s not healthy to laugh quite so hard), if you use an application called Vuescan with a film/slide scanner you can obtain something akin to a raw file. I’m not aware of anyone offering this sort of service commercially but you may strike lucky.

The batteries in 500si’s last for ages, why bother going to the expense of a charger etc when ordinary batteries are as “cheap as chips”? You’ll need all your spare cash for film processing.

Cheap/budget dSLRs don’t offer any really significant advantage in my experience.

Please could you give us an idea of this “experience” and how you’ve come to this conclusion? I only ask because without exception, everyone I’ve talked to who’s actually used a cheap DSLR disagrees with you and sees it as a massive step up. The only people I hear agreeing with you are those who have no experience of the cameras they’re poo-pooing.

may I suggest you lay off the “sauce” or wacky-bakky.Or perhaps, when you posted, your hormones were out of balance due to the time of the month;) .

Perhaps if you bothered to read his posts you’d realise that Stormbird’s not “on the sauce”, he’s got MS. Still laughing?

Kev, Ken’s just not able to behave according to the standards others should be able to expect of him. He’s demonstrated this on a number of occasions.

Ian, Ken’s lies count for absolutely nothing. The only visitors to his site go there to laugh at him and it’s doubtful that his rantings about you will be regarded as anything other than the vile outpourings of a liar who’s been caught out by those who’ve scratched the surface of his stories and found so little of substance or note.

Ken’s even re-written the history of events on this forum a couple of years ago, you can hardly blame a poor memory for that. No, it’s simply bitterness. He was given the undeserved courtesy of slipping out of a situation he’d created for himself and he’s now re-written this as some form of triumph.

Let’s examine the possibilities of Ken’s claim to fame with a charitable eye:

Ken writes up some of his memories. He’s eager to do this and doesn’t check all the dates and timelines because he feels he’s fairly sure about what happened and when. This goes on the web under scrutiny and it transpires that some of the recollections don’t fit the assumed dates. Ken has two options here:

    * Go back and verify the timeline and revise it, however this results in an unremarkable tale which doesn’t insult the memory of someone more homourable than him and therefore doesn’t grab any attention.
    * Go on the offensive and swear that black is white and ignore all proof to the contrary.

The first option would have been wiser, Ken. The second has led to global ridicule each time you pop your head up above the parapet. A couple of years ago Mark and I did you the undeserved favour of negotiating a peace to save you further embarrassment, this current round of nonsense finds me less charitable.

Ken, behave with some dignity, your attention seeking behaviour is utterly shameful and it’s gone too far. Perhaps Ian’s a big enough man to forgive you? He’s put more effort into researching your story and has had a great deal more success in establishing the facts than you have.

Look on the bright side, Ian. When Ken did his extensive google research to establish your identity (With his usual lamentable accuracy) at least he didn’t accuse you of being a rosebush The moderately fragrant EN830 rose
