The subject has been discussed before and I think we’ve all come to our own conclusions about how high the Spitfire was at the time. Any further raking over of this issue will probably cause further hassle for the pilot – does anyone out there want that?

This clip is a stunning piece of action and its entertainment value is derived from that fact that it is so low. I don’t think that discussing it further is very productive though.

We’ve all appreciated Steve Connor’s work so perhaps we can honour his wishes and let the matter drop now?

What a valuable contribution to make for your first post “Parky”.

We’re usually a little more polite around here.

I don’t really have a problem with some of the more inane threads, I either ignore them or divert them. I can fully understand the view that a small number of people have monopolised this forum and I’ll hold my hand up as one of the “chatty ones”. My only advice for anyone who feels that they want anything else out of the forum is to shape it by contributing. Perhaps if you feel strongly about a particular discussion you could politely remind anyone who posts off topic to leave the thread alone.

This forum can be what you want it to be, but it won’t be unless you contribute to it.

Flood, get the facts right, Colonial Bird emailed me and continued to do so – it’s quite intriguing to receive abuse from someone who declares themself as “Your Moon” or was it “Your Sun” in their email header. I simply point out unhealthy behaviour when I see it, if you or Colonial Bird choose to ignore this then that’s your perogative, but your continued behaviour wins little support.

If this is a family forum, please examine your Iraq thread. Is that family material? Family language? Family tone?

Yet again you detract from the original point and assume that anyone who has an opinion that differs from yours is being coerced or is simply wrong and you use a derisive tone in your response. This doesn’t exactly inspire any confidence or respect in you.

I suggest you think a little harder before responding.

By the way, please could you find a way of giving people the choice of placing you on their ignore lists. I can’t think of a better addition to mine, but the forum software doesn’t allow it.

I hope you realise that whilst you’re creating trouble you leave the weight of the moderation of the forum on Frank’s shoulders since you won’t moderate Colonial Bird and you choose to ignore the rules that are applied to others in your own posts. That’s irresponsible.

Zero tolerance on racism. Racist remarks will get an otherwise worthwhile post moderated or deleted. One man’s joke is another man’s racism; decision rests with the moderators and the board’s owners.

Personal attacks on others are not allowed. To be mortally insulting without getting personal is a artform. Acquire the skill. If you can not counter an argument without attacking the person, then do not post here.

If you are attacked by someone, use the ‘report to moderator’ function and the post will be looked at by the Mods. Do not revenge like with like.

Ignore trolls. If you feed the troll you are just as guilty.

Aviation is an international endeavour par exellence; bigotry has no place on this bulletin board. If venting intolerant gut feelings is your thing, go do it somewhere else.

Do not highjack other people’s threads by endlessly introducing your private fetishes, hang-ups and pet-obsessions. Go see a shrink instead.

The board’s owner does not wish to provide bandwith for people to indulge in Israel bashing. That is his prerogative. Respect it.

Do not post endless newspaper articles (copyright issues) or links to publications on the net. Moderators are obliged to read it all. Really Really Boring And Totally Pointless Snippets Of Information belong in this thread and nowhere else!

We’d prefer you not to discuss politics & religion. Two subjects that almost inevitably seem to lead to some people losing the plot completely and Mods having to work overtime. But since these subjects also lead to some of the most interesting threads, and life can’t be all “Mornington Crescent”, if you choose to participate in such a thread, show some restraint and a goodly dose of maturity.

Moderation is like abuse; best self inflicted. We much prefer that you moderate your own output but will not hesitate to moderate it for you if required.

Freedom carries with it a responsibilty. Neglect the latter, forfeit the former.

Moderators are just ordinary persons, with a busy life that extends well beyond the boundaries of this forum, who have volunteered (=been press ganged) into continuing to moderate one of the more difficult forums. It would be very easy to just pull the plug, but Danny has agreed that whilst we keep it under control it can continue.
We will continue to do so only whilst it is worthwhile.

I don’t see anything but good sense in these rules, and whilst I don’t claim to abide by all of them all of the time, I think they’re good guidelines.
