interesting pic, can anyone identify the weapons/designator on the centerline station of the two Mirages on th eleft of the pic? Stand off weapon?
Most likely practice bombs, but not 100 % sure. The original (and larger)picture is here: http://www.pakdef.info/pakmilitary/airforce/gallery/mirage3.html (BTW the picture was taken at Masroor AB)
I have seen a couple of photos/clips of RAF Jaguars deployed in middle
east (Oman?) doing some dare-devil stuff like flying fast with wheels up only about 10 feet off the ground, coming into land with wheels up then taking off at last monent……apparently their
“supervision” was quite loose 🙂 and they had a lot of fun.anyone has photos of such stunts?
Being an Indian you might find it interesting that many IAF (pre-partition) and later IAF/ RPAF pilots also did a very similar stunt. On take-offs in fighters (and sometimes other planes), the pilot would retract the undercarriage before the wheels left the ground. To do this, the pilot would make sure that he had at least ten knots on the clock above normal lift-off speeds. Then, keeping the plane at exactly the same height as when it was rolling on its wheels, he would continue level down the runway till the wheels were tucked in, before pulling up. Of course this manoeuvre (called ‘Brush take-off’) had no operational value but looked very impressive. The ‘Brush take-offs’ also resulted in some serious accidents. A PAF pilot who had flown during the WWII (while serving in IAF) as a fighter pilot and later joined the PAF and than PIA crashed his F-27 Fokker while trying this stunt (no fatalities nor any serious injuries).
Guys, you’re all free to ring the BS alert if necessary. And this is an obvious one – can’t really add anything to Ja what Ja just said here (how about that???).
The news is not complete BS – there is some truth to it. I am scanning and uploading a page from official history book of PAF (‘The Story of Pakistan Air Force’) which documents a previous attempt of PAF at Gripen: http://www.pakdef.info/temp/gripen&PAF.jpg (Right click on link and then Save Target As)
That’s a poorly done cut and paste hybrid of the Mirage-2000’s dash and HUD and the Su-30MKI’s MFD-66s. The right MFDs are even showing the exact same radar and targetting picture as seen on the Su-30 brochure.
I know. As I said in my previous post it just shows the ‘basic cockpit concept ‘ and nothing else. BTW the illustration was by TECNA Corporation and is scanned from a printed newspaper hence the poor quality.
As already stated by other members that’s a F-18 cockpit picture. For the JF-17 cockpit picture you fellows should wait till the Prototype-4 is completed since it will carry the full avionics suite. Last year this cockpit illustration was published in Dawn when the JF-17 made its first flight and shows the basic cockpit concept (3 large colored MFD’s, 2 small MFD’s, wide-angle HUD etc.).

Hi Rob,
I would like these ones (given in gallery 3):
1. CONTROL TOWER R.A.F. RISALPUR
2. THE WHOLE SQN IN 1946. (RISULPUR)
3. ENGINE TESTING AT RISALPUR
4. READY TO GO.
5. RIGGING SECETION R.A.F. RISALPUR 1946
Very interesting website. Specially loved the Risalpur picture and Burma pictures. Is it possible to get high-resolution scans of the Risalpur pictures? I would like to use them in my gallery at http://www.pakdef.info/pakmilitary/airforce/pioneers/
Usman, that’s an F/A-18 cockpit.
Yes you are right, I figured it out.
Can anyone ID this cockpit?
saw this in china.com, it is claimed to be the cockpit of 03. can anyone confirm or disprove it?
That is a MiG-29S cockpit picture.
finally Usman 🙂 thanks, after months of waiting we have the interview, nice stuff there.
one good thing: ‘complete glass-cockpit environment’
that pic of cockpit of 01 was really scary, not thats settled, thank god.
To have an idea of how the cockpit of production JF-17 will look like you should wait for the Prototype 04 since it will be used for avionics and weapons integration & qualification tests.
I remember being jumped on by certainmembers when I had said that the FC-1 is a stable airframe and all the loops etc of its first flight were proof of that. Interesting q and a though
Yes, JF-17 is a stable design (it’s well known fact) but during the first test flight the aircraft was equipped with a mix system i.e. FBW for pitch and hydraulic for the rest.

They are for an airborne assault brigade (same say division) that Pakistan Army is raising – AH-1’s can’t carry any troops.
