Linda Ralph and Kev35. Can you please contact me as soon as possible? I will explain as soon as I can get you on the phone, or e-mail. I will also send both of you a PM with my contact data. Thanks, Danny
That is what I was looking for….we found parts belonging to what we believe to be the radio in the vicinity of the painted over plexiglass. Though we also found .303s in the same spot. Danny
This is great information. I feel that unknowingly this thread might have helped solve a 60+ year old mystery. Danny
If they are just cases then they could have been ejected, as fighters did not keep the expended cases on board.
I just read that since the end of WWII German EOD has defused 7500 bombs in Berlin alone and guess that another 3000 are lying around somewhere in Berlin city. By the way a German pound is 500 gramm and 1000 gramm equals a kilo. so in Germany 500kg is 1000lbs. Germans actually list the bomb as a 10 Zentner (one Zentner is 50kg) bomb. Danny
Nonetheless, of all the German bombers the He177 was the most beautiful and if it would not have been for material shortages at the later part of the war, she might have been a very effective weapon. Danny

Hallo all, my name is Danny and I was one of the guys at the Brandauu dig. The recovery was done quite professional. We have German authorities on site, but alas the amount of human remains were discouraging. Only an hour pprior to closing out the recovery did another eyewitness come forth and told us a totally different story. He stated that the Lancaster blew up prior to crashing and that remains were scattered over a large area. This contradicts all other witness statements, but is most likely what happened as the recovery points to just such an event. Most importantly, the three families present were very satisfied and were actively involved in the recovery. There will be one more search and recovery conducted which will last for anout a week. Then in August we intend to open a memorial at the crash-site. By the way AFN (Armed Forces Network) did a one minute clip on this, if you are all interested, I could link the site for you all. Thanks, Danny
Hey I am glad I figured the internet out, don’t overwelm me now 😀
Hey all, I have to admit, we had very little problems with the MOD. We contacted their representative here in Germany, while the families contacted the MOD in the UK. What we were told is that if the local government, in our case it was the Buegermeister of Brandau, authorizes the recovery, then the MOD cannot prevent this as it is not on their soil. I think in the case of this aircraft, the families should maybe all unite and address the MOD together, while our Dutch friends contact Rijkswater or whoever else is responsible for this area and requests permission. It would be so much easier if the aircraft had crashed on land.
I am attaching the link to our attempted recovery of Lancaster JB221 and its four missing crew members. Sorry, but it is in German. Danny
Cees, I only know one Cees, he is from NL and a diver. And you know what they say of old Dutch divers :dev2:

Guys, if you wouldn’t be so bloody ugly i would marry you. But all jokes aside, this is the identical tool we found in the wreckage of JB221, just ours looks like it was made yesterday. We also found a broken file and a pair of scissors. Danny
Hey guys, sorry for confusing the issue. LK687 was shot down by von bonin, but…..the following night. Danny
Creaking, yes you are correct, Brandau is in the Modautal, it is just so darn small, that if you don’t slow down you went out the other side of town without even noticing.
I am still wondering how von Bonin was creditied with 3 kills and looking at date, there is a forth, or one that cannot be explained away. Danny
