My bet is on bad icing.
A pilot has come forward and told how he was on approach to MUC at the same time as the Austrian jet, he overheard the emergency transmissions transmitted by thr pilots.
He states that in the same hour several aircraft on approach and in holding patterns reported very bad icing.
Excellent!

I beleive it played a pre war Lufthansa airliner if a film some time ago hence the false D- markings.
Looking forward to visiting the Aviodrome in the summer.
The “L-H” on the tail would support your theory.
Before the war and for a while After, all lufthansa aicraft merely had L-H on their tails. Until they started painting the famous Crane logo on the tails instead.
Thats a cute wee moggy…. is it yours?

R.I.P Concorde :'( 🙁
I disliked airbus before…. now that I found out they’re the biggest reason for the BA concorde’s earlier than planned retirement, I hate em 😡
Matt, because of this Boeing won’t need thier own Ship! 😛
Thats the whole point. And it looks like that converted 747 is gonna be wide enough for larger fuselages sections too.
So who knows what it will carry, other than the 7E7.
If you ask me, having to build a special ship is just a waste of money.
If any petition should be made, it needs to be against airbus.
Theyare one of the main reasons BA must retire Concorde as well as what I highlighted above.
Since AF retired theire to due costs, Airbus have turned round and said they refuse to make special parts just for 6 aircraft.
With no aircraft parts, you have no spares. AF and future owners of the AF concorde fleet refuse to allow BA to canabalise their retired aircraft.
So, what can BA do?! With no parts they cannot run the aircraft.
The Parts stock went down to low levels i the last few years.
Hell, an air france concorde has been flying for month with a BA Tail rudder!!
Yes, Concorde was a triumph of European design, something the americans, or anyone else could get close to. Concorde was the only SST that commercially made money. Air France and Ba only eeded 30 odd pax per plane to make a profit! but of late, they’ve been struggling to even get into the teens of Pax.
That, compounded with the dilema that no more parts will soon be available has forced her retirement.
This wasn’t a decision by BA management just to Cheese people offlike this petition suggests… it was a safety decision.
Infact, BA wanted to keep her running untill at least 2010.
They have spent a lot of money overhauling their fleet to meet the new safety requirements after F-BTSC crashed. And there’s about £12.5 millon worth of new interior sitting in boxes at heathrow for the Concorde. A refurbishment that was planned for the winter, when pax numbers are usually lower.
But, after all that is said, one fact remains:
You can’t run a fleet of aircraft without spare parts!
Thats the Main reason folks.
Also. G-BOAG is the heaviest Concorde in the BA fleet. Due to repairs made after a heavy landing, somewhere in the middle east. Consequently she’s the most expensive to run, thats why she was in storage for years.
G-BOAC would be a nice touch, to keep her flying, but she’ll need a big cash injection to get her airworthy. That is, if its possible at all.
I find that a very childish petition and will be asking it be removed.
The reason Concorde is going now is that
1) BA need to save money, and Concorde is bleeding a lot of it away
2) The want Concorde to go out when its still on top. So that we remember her as the great flying machine she is. Not for a rundown aircraft,.. which will happen if she conitnues flying and gets older. As mechanical issue will arise more and more, and the media will just destroy the image of Concorde.
Anyone who signs that petition is just plain ignorant.
I say its good she goes out while she is still the best.
R.I.P. concorde, you deserve it.
“You lot hold the nose on, I’ll go get the sticky tape”
Yeah… thank you Deano….. this thread and your input has re-ignited the flame on my desire to train as a pilot. IT has shown me.. I have a good chance… and the ability.
Damn wallets not thick enough at the moment though 🙁
