Sad news indeed. Mike was a great aviation enthusiast who did much to preserve some fine aeroplanes over many years.

Norman was a total aviation person and a fine display pilot. I still miss his infectious enthusiasm. The airshow scene is the poorer for his passing but those who remember his skills are the richer for having seen them.
Happy memories.

Thank you Francois for posting such sad news.
An inspiration to so many and a true British gentleman. It would have been wonderful to see one of his aerobatic demonstrations.

I got a letter from my MP on Saturday to say he had written to the relevant department enclosing my email. He will get back to me with the response.

I really do feel it is vital to use all practicable means of getting our concerns over.
There is no doubt that your local MP is more likely to help one of his constituents as a result of a letter, fax or email. After all, it is your vote that might re-elect him or her in the future.
I am a little sceptical on how much weight might be given to the petition to the Prime Minister especially when one appreciates just how many petitions there are and how much support they have received. It has to be recognised that the general aviation fraternity is very much a minority in the population as a whole.

Steve,
Many thanks indeed for the innovative petition link. I have signed it. Hope others feel motivated to do so.

Twofour,
It sounds a really interesting series but I cannot view it. Is there any chance of it being available on DVD in the future?

Well with Deenethorpe only 20 minutes away by road from home and around 5 NM direct it would mean they would have a DAE on their proverbial doorstep. I do have some concerns as to the current security situation on site there but these could be overcome if finance is available. We shall see.

I fondly recall an occasion around twenty years ago when a local PPL, who had been taking house photographs over our village, cold called to attempt a sale. My wife answered the door and chatted to the hopeful salesman/pilot. She suggested that since her husband was also a pilot that he might be interested. When I appeared the embarassment on his part was acute. He well knew my employer was the CAA…..!!! but had no idea I lived in the village. I was given the photograph with absolutely no mention of any payment being involved. Happy days.

PS – He now has an ATPL and flies for our national airline as a Captain. Great chap.
The programme on Saturday was badly affected by the high winds and poor weather in England.
Typhoon could not take off from Warton due crosswind.
Harrier could not take off from Blackpool due crosswind.
We lost the following on both days.
Blue Eagles could not fly up from Middle Wallop due appalling weather.
Pitts Special stuck at Carlisle due to low cloud base.
A real shame since Portrush had fairly nice weather during the display period on both days.
The Skybolt’s slots were most enjoyable………… for the pilot at least.

So sad to read of Paul’s death. His column in Aeroplane Monthly was always of interest and his editorship of the Warbirds Worldwide magazine superb. I shall treasure the memory of our occasional conversations. Truly an individual with a passionate interest in our sort of aviation. My sincere condolences to family and friends.

Steve,
A fine effort on what must have been a memorable day. I look forward to reading the saga in TP.

What a wonderful thread. Bet their advertising agency loves the contract.

I was most impressed. Considering the programme only lasted 30 minutes I think the producers did a fine job which would have been of interest to a wide audience. Loved the last CO nicking his squadron commander pennant at the end of the days proceedings along with the wind playing havoc with several of the caps of those on parade. A couple of really human touches along with many others. I do hope it gets an airing in other regions.
