macky 42 – The Campbell helmet is a bonedome, it just looks like a leather helmet but offers good head protection.
Is anyone in the UK an agent and what is the cost?

I believe G-2000 was a special arrangement purely for the PFA rally, the G-69-69 series are used by manufacturers only and your imminent bankruptcy is a condition I probably share if I looked at my bank balance…..!!

    Blue Robin,
I have to declare my hand. Having been aerodrome manager at three licensed aerodromes from 1968 through to 1984 I know only too well the cost of compliance with CAP168 even for the smallest aerodrome. If the NPPL(microlights) and the NPPL(SLMG) can be achieved at airfields that comply with a code of practice rather than the need to be licensed then why not the NPPL(SSEA)?
    Flying chick,
Those proposals made by the PFA to the NPPL steering group and the CAA a year ago are still to be debated.
    Cheers,
    Barry
PS – I intend to put forward all your ideas, irrespective of whether I agree with them, at future study group meetings.

Essentially it is a study to determine the need or otherwise for the smallest category of aerodromes to be licensed for training with all the extra cost that entails. Gliders and microlights do not need a licensed site for training – why should conventional light aircraft?
    Hope this helps.

    Barry

Well it would have done if the guy who was to present the item had turned up. Frustration all round.

    Darren,
That Coventry display orchestrated by John Watts was great except the organiser (not John ) disappeared in the early afternoon of the Sunday along with his bird and all the proceeds from the gates. He subsequently filed for bankruptcy leaving a lot of display pilots unpaid. The idea for the show came from the then UK wing of the Confederate Air Force who put their misplaced trust into a real con artist. I flew a Nord 3202 G-BEFH on an aerobatic slot both days and did manage to get my tanks filled FOC plus a grand overnight stay and nosh in a plush Coventry hotel but went down the tube financially to the tune of £400. I remember I eventually got paid at the rate of 10p in the pound………….!!!! Ah well we live and learn.
John Watts along with Paul Warren-Wilson and Arthur Gibson as his partners were a real force in warbirds and it was a tragedy when John was killed in that MAC. Great bloke. RIP to both John and Arthur – who was an aerial photographer extraordinaire. His promotion photos for the North Weald “Fighter Meet” were exceptional as was his classic shot of the Arrows, Concorde and the QE2.
    Fond memories,

    WebPilot,
Hope you manage to post those 1977 shots of Sally B at Fenland. The thought of it still puts shivers up my spine. It was the odd guy like Don who provoked the CAA into producing the current airshow regulations – and a good job too IMHO. Mind you I would say that…………!!! Being a poacher turned gamekeeper and now back to poaching. Happy days.

Had the pleasure of working with Derek Whitehead at the CAA in the mid 1980’s. A real gentleman and totally modest who rarely spoke of his time as Blackburn’s CTP. I must look out for that video.

The draft proposals for increased charges to General Aviation by the CAA are on the agenda for tomorrows General Aviation Consultative Committee at Gatwick. It should result in some lively debate.

    Albert and Webpilot,
It was Fenland. I flew three slots in the show with a Cessna FRA150 G-BCFR, Fuji FA200-160 G-BBRE and Tiger Moth G-ANZU. Aerobatics in the first two and crazy flying in the Tiger.
Don Bullock was flying Sally B and on one pass from south to north picked up some straw either with his wingtip or the tip vortex. Absolutely horrific………!!! Shook me rigid at the time.

Ken’s spectacular arrival was at an Ulster Airshow at Newtownards. He had an engine failure at the worst possible moment and made the best of a bad job.
