The photo of G-EBGB on the slipway on your website baffles me. Looking at the ferry landing the slipway would appear to be on the downstream side, whereas Supermarine were upstream. The hangar and other buildings don’t correspond to Supermarine’s works either so the photo hasn’t been flipped. Who owned this site in the mid 20s? Was it Thorneycroft or did they come later?
You have to flip the photo –

thanks uncleal!
Hallo Planemike. Just joined the Forum. I have 6 photos of VP-KJK in the middle 1950’s flying out of a field at Kingolwira near Morogoro, Tanganyika. My father was Prison Superintendent at a Farm Prison there and I assume the Anson was spraying the crops on that farm. We lived next to this field and I remember the occasion very well although I was 6 or 7? Please let me know. Not sure how I get the photos to you if required. I have them scanned and ready to go!
Would love to see a photo of KJK too!

Thanks for this! It all started with Pemberton-Billing’s “boat that can fly” Supermarine P.B.1
“Ionel Ghica flew the special SET 31G named ‘Foisor’ on a long-distance flight from Bucharest to Saigon between 30 March and 16 April 1932, covering 9,350 km (5,810 mi) in 2 days, 14 hours, and 25 minutes.”
The forward fuselage of one is in the museum at Veghel.

How long does it take to fill the 747 with a full load of water/retardant?
how many gallons/litres makes up a full load?
Second question: 19,600 gallons of fire retardant or water

I wonder.. he was already known as the guy who’d been hit by flak and survived six times. I wonder how.. ahem.. ‘organised’ this PR photo was?
Had instantly the same impression…
Hi Martin,
Thank you for your contribution. It confirms my thoughts as with regard to the airport of landing: Lympne.
Selo Fly: one of the sponsors was Selo Glue and the company paid £ 18 for the advertisment on the side of the aircraft. A bargain…Cheers Rob
Aah, interesting! Thanky,
Martin
