Good point Pete. I’m more used to flying with no reduction gear. Is that engine or prop rpm? As an aside, you have rpm and boost gauges in te cockpit, don’t you?
Lifted from a Wikipedia where it quotes Henshaw flight testing Spitfires
After a thorough pre-flight check I would take off and, once at circuit height, I would trim the aircraft and try to get her to fly straight and level with hands off the stick … Once the trim was satisfactory I would take the Spitfire up in a full-throttle climb at 2,850 rpm to the rated altitude of one or both supercharger blowers. Then I would make a careful check of the power output from the engine, calibrated for height and temperature … If all appeared satisfactory I would then put her into a dive at full power and 3,000 rpm, and trim her to fly hands and feet off at 460 mph IAS
I think my trip years ago to West Drayton, partly to see DnD, would make me shoot over to 121.5. They have the most up-to-date info, or can find it for, whilst nursing you home to a safe airfield. Easy to say in the comfort of a warm, benign office. 🙁
Thank you. A fascinating obit, which also has led me to look up B29s in RAF service.
Oh, do catch up, BR.
Thank you Rob, good to know 🙂 Only having a casual look here atm you see; part-working, part-scoffing lunch on break.
Welcome back.
We’re missing one wingman. Hope Mark12 reappears from his sortie.
I’d like to see ACSS fly in the new year. That would be a great present. There was a rumour this time last year iirc …
In light of pending news, lets take a little sabbatical. Things are getting silly and I cannot so how further contributions are helping. I’ve opted to lock this thread temporarily until Richard can get back to us all with an update. Thanks a great deal for being so understanding and nice to the moderating team. It’s been lovely to come back and see this happen.

Andre, I bet some one here would know or could look it up if you posted reg and serial number.
Please don’t force us into removing pointless posts that are failing to contribute to the thread subject, or consider locking it entirely if it spirals out of control. You’ve all been very good to us mods and that’s heartening 🙂
Idly wondering if we need one central thread of poorly researched Telegraph articles :p
When has the inside of a military aircraft ever been ergonomic? Those struts are an archtitectural nudge at what lies inside 😉
I did my IR on the DA42. Nice aeroplane! Some good footage there. Are you using it for education and training?
