Moggy, if you were still a Reggie Spotter, you would find Air Britain publications most useful. Who, what, where, when. The company finds them most useful for it’s line of business.
A10s were one of the jet aircraft I grew up with. Mid-Warwickshire was alive with jet noise during the late 70s, 80s and early 90s and the A10 was particurlay characteristic. I can still remember having a lesson in G2 at school during a hot day in c.1990 with all the windows open. The USAF had taken it upon themselves to repeatedly do robits and wingovers around our school. Needless to say, one couldn’t here what the teacher was saying.
“Dear Mr President, you ruined my education because of….” 😉
Goodwood Festival of Speed has the opportunity of meeting..

…Amanda Stretton coz a chap I know owns a race car and she drives it 😉 (eh Chris, can you sort it?!) 😀
PFA – well plenty of vintage types to look at.
FLs – goes without saying.
Ooh-kay 🙂 PFA and FL then. I can always go to the Revival meeting at Goodwood later on in the year.
Can I blag an entrance into the FlyPast tent without a sub?
Thanks Moggy for the tip. It worked out quite well (I have the smudge on all of ym photos! 🙁 )
Can you hear the Merlin roar? 😀
Oh dear. I know have to make choice between FLs@Duxford, PFA Rally and Goodwood.
Hmmm… three days and only have two availalbe to attend 😮
When the annual comes up (MoT), you have to have the work done by a licensed engineer from the state of registry.
There are a few FAA ones in this country. Yet, D-FKMA AN2 at Wellesbourne has to return to Germany for this work. I guess the T6 likewise goes back to Norway. Would be interested to know how they’ve got aorund the NZ on the P40, if indeed, this is the case.
Brill!
Do you want to edit 60 or so photos? Did I mention you owe me a favour or two? 😉 😀
They were prettier from the front but I was too slow with the camera. I believe their names are Julie and Genie.
Breightling Fighters
Doesn’t the P-40 fly in this group and if so, what happened to it? Haven’t seen oe flyig before. In fact, ysterday was the first time I’ve been up close to a Corsair 😀
I’m going. Not sure if its Sat or Sun though. I didn’t book the tickets.
yeah yeah…in the Mustang…we know 😉
15 minutes of Moggy action at Coventry would make my year. Haven’t heard the roar of twin Merlins for ages.
Oooh! Can’t wait to see some history on my 2nd favourite airfield 🙂
Natch – it’s a Bedford, registration 96 KF 33. 😉
Attended in my Jodel…only tailwheel GA-type to fly-in 😎
There was another VIP there – the Tornado pilot who got shot down in 1991 Gulf War and later became an ITN correspondant. What’s his name?
The Harvard raised a few hairs on the back of my neck. To see that radial and wing come towards you, lights on, put me in mind of beingon an airfield under attack. Prop was noisy on takeoff. Are they almost supersonic?
There’s little left at Knettishall in terms of buildings. One of the T2 hangars is still there, converted now for agricultural use. The other hangar, tower, crew rooms and accommodation have long since gone. The peritrack remains. Part of the main runway remains serving as hard standing for the modellers and alongside, a small GA-hangar and grass strip from where Moggy flies his kite.
If one were to take a trip along the peritrack, you would see that the site is now agricultural. Fields, crops, the odd lapwing and pheasant. One hard-standing remains. Spookily there is a gap in a hedge, with a single bush standing in the middle. This is where a B17 crash landed and the mark still remains today.
I recall there were 117 losses whilst the base was in operation.
