Being American, you asked for Mountain Dew and got offered “Mou-tain Doooo” 🙂 Do you remember that all canned drinks had to be opened before they could be given to you? Was that something to do with rules on PX goods?
I planned to go to several, but only ever managed it twice. First time was about 1994. Several firsts, first time I’d seen a Starlifter or even knew they existed, first KC-135, first B-52, first Galaxy, first Transall… IIRC this was the first time a C-17 had come over to an airshow.
Flexing the wingtip of that B52, it stuck well over into the crowdline and was surprisingly flexible. The B52 took up most of the runway for departure. I think the commentator must have egged us on a little.
A Dutch (AF?) F27 doing practically aeros on one engine 😮
A F16 party piece, tear-arsssing in an aileron roll just above the runway with full afterburner. Very noisy with an amazing turning circle.
The Tornado departure as Moggy mentioned, straight up to 20000+ feet then off.
First time seeing the Frecces, started off thinking they must be pap because the Reds are the best, but they made a good impression.
A defining moment in the day’s commentary was when the Romanian(?) Air Force displayed their Aloutte IIs. Not very exciting to watch but their man commented with a funny comedy accent and very enthusiastic. Every 30 seconds he announced with greeat glee “Ladies and Gentlemen! The Russian Break!” To this day my brother and I still say this for heli displays 🙂
I think I also went to what was the last Mildenhall. Spent all day queuing for the park and ride at Newmarket, buses I think got lost, stuck or cancelle and we got on-site for about 1.30. Traffic management compared to the first event seemed to have gotten a lost worse.
Apart from constant repetition on multiple websites, I can’t find any more details, and until you mentioned it was unaware of this information. I don’t see any official confirmation anywhere.
He owns what is, iirc, a half-original Sopwith Camel, displayed at Omaka Airshow ’03. I have the DVD of the airshow somewhere…
I have never heard Jackson actually flying it.
Wouldn’t it be good if they filmed all the night stuff in black and white? I’ve just thought about the CGI issue with animating a damn explosion and B&W might give it an edge with the run-in and Moehne going down.

Two-time Moehne “dambuster”
It’s a good game going back to DX, trying to spot what’s moved and what’s missing.
Is the back section of the TFC hangar still closed to the public?
Flew a Robin 2160 last month, motors verrrry nice with 160hp, and it’s Blue! 😀
“Hi-viz vests now mandated for all Rearwin/Cubs in Sweden”
It’s ‘ealthy and Safety gone mad I tell yer!
Yup I see they have revised their models for tomorrow. It now seems less optimistic for up here at least.
But based on other data I’ve seen this occluded front and associated depression will still be affecting the SE tomorrow afternoon.
Doesn’t look great. Thank you USAF for producing good synoptic charts 😎

When is it going for with a spray then Tom? 😎
Have you ever sat there watching them? The landings always look effortless, just the slightest tickling of the tailskid and gently coming to a rest. It’s enough to make your piloting blood steam but go “oooooh nice” at the same time.
The last shot meets with some approval 😉
Y11F posted the following. Apologies a slight glitch meant it got mismerged to the wrong place. 😮
“I seem to have become the end of the line for the disposable camera. There are still shots that need to be taken on it, does anybody else want it before I fill it up with pictures of Mustangs?????”
Not surprising really (but it depends on who you spoke to) as they are pretty much concentrating in getting the next issue out.
PP need to finish my CPL before they will let me out on a weekday! The DA42 has a surprising single-engine performance for only a 135hp diesel.
Happily ex-employee of the Rugby branch 😉 I started today on the DA42 toward my MEP rating… 🙂
What with Aeroplane going over to IPC etc aiui the archive is fragmented. Thing is though any donation back to them (RBI) would have to be teased out into the public domain.
Wonder if Flight still have copies of their own?
