Shhhh, but that’s another film I haven’t seen. Read the book, obviously.

    PS. Wow!

Meat bomber pilots like to get back on the ground ASAP for the next sortie and in doing so it is not uncommon for high performance manoeuvres to be carried out. Given the rural nature of the location and no obvious other circuit traffic, I can’t see why not.

I think that could well be a DO28 meat bomber.

I’m not sure if this ventures into malice or banter, but in any case, play nice.

Probably GD would be a better place overall as it is general interest. Eggy went to my school…

The syllabus doesn’t make a Prac Pan compulsory, but a switched instructor might. Doing one pre cross country is a sound idea.

As no doubt fellow pilot Moggy C will corroborate, the correct answer is that if you don’t park your props just “so”, many puppies will die. Who’d want that on their hands?

Fascinating. I feel like I’m almost there seeing the action. Who needs YouTube?

Leaflet states “Aircrew and ATC are encouraged to visit.”

You get a good appreciation of what those guys can do for you regardless who you are or your predicament. I don’t think this is instilled at PPL level. Perhaps they could market themselves better? Perhaps some are scared of potentially mis using an emergency service? I’d like see it become part of a decision making process if things look ropey. If you say had two hours fuel, they could find a choice of airfields up to 200 miles away and guide you there. I’d rather declare a PAN, land at Heathrow in VMC and nark off a few bus pilots, than end my days on hardus granaticus in IMC. Isn’t Strasser’s AOPA weather diversion waiver scheme still going?

Anon it suggests they have the proper facilities at DX to spruce it up and take it back to London in tip top shape.

Any gen on the airframe history?

Dads parents both worked the land around here, so did their bit outside of the armed forces. Mums parents were too young! Mums mums dad was in the army. gran reckons though a Devon man he was in the kings own Scottish borderers. He saw action in Dunkirk and was taken PoW during action, which I have taken an educated guess at being the loss of Crete. Apparently hit on the head during an ammo drop, gran then thinks he was placed into a Stalag Luft camp (huh?), escaping and avoiding contact all the way home upon liberation. I really ought to get his service record and properly research this.

Grans grandad and his brother were apparently riggers or fitters in the RFC.
